Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I also switched to oatmeal for November, but I didn't do it until today. I switched from granola. It has likely been nearly fifty years since I ate any bacon.

Went for a chilly ride and then mission of mercy to visit my folks in NJ. My dad fell a week ago and still in some pain. We took away a couple loose throw rugs (one was likely a factor in the fall), changed some lightbulbs and did some other chores around the house, and picked up some items at the grocery store. I suspect my visits there may go from monthly to weekly quite soon.

The guy that owns the lot is an ass, and lives in Austin. His crews just mulch them up with their mowers.

In other news, the landscape service we’ve been using just sent us a bill that makes us feel like he bent us over with no warning.

I tried to get my neighbor to assume responsibility for the heaps of pine needles in my yard. He insists they're mine.

A bunch of leave down here, but there are still green ones on some of the trees, so it will be a while. Sigh.

I have 2 in the back and he has a huge one close to the front. That's how I justify blaming him. The trees in my back yard dump huge amounts of needles in the other neighbors yard, on their roof, and on the 3 cars in their back yard.

The last house had 5 pine trees around it. One night a 30 foot branch broke off and fell on the roof as we were sleeping. Part of it came through the ceiling in the bedroom closet.
Few years later a smaller pine tree fell against the car port and crushed part of the roof.

Well it sounds like you are guilty. We had a pine tree once.

Lots of leaves relocated the last couple days. Yesterday I blew off a sloped lawn. This morning my dad and I were moving those leaves from there to where the city picks them up. Whilst we were working the vacuum truck came by and sucked up the big pile. I wish we had known it was coming. Maybe we could have convinced the driver to go by the first location and it would have saved a lot of work.

Those things sure generate a lot of dust.

NOAA is predicting epic snow fall in my area this year. Do they make chains for bike tires to ride on ice? That can’t be good for average speed.

Well, the last post-work ride of 2023 is in the books. I had to leave work at 4 to manage it, and still only just got back to the car before the sun dropped below the crest of the Santa Cruz Mtns.

The weather was perfect! 70s the whole way, very light winds, low humidity. Pure cycling heaven, on the 3rd of November, while the East Coast contingent are trying to remember how to dress for temps near freezing. I'm gonna miss that!!

I took Dreadnought, with its new Corsas and the rubber washers I made for the QRs so they don't let the rear wheel slip out of alignment in the chrome plated dropouts. AFAICT, they did the job, though tbf I didn't tear off any 1200w sprints, either. The Corsas make the ride good enough that I am no longer considering consigning Dreadnought to short (<30) mile rides only. The ride is firm, but manageable.

So, from now till March, it's all Zwift during the work week, and the road only on weekends (or holidays).
