Addiction 2023.4

Notices
Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

Whew. No doubt. But, RAAM doesn't get more real, unless you go for the Transcontinental. That's totally self supported. No one to screaming at you, but you.

Start by doing a bunch of ultra type events. It's going to take a lot of your time and probably change your personality, not to mention the expense. And sleep deprivation. You have to be able to function with minimal sleep for over a week.

RAAM solo riders are a different breed.

A few years ago I was the software and systems engineering lead on a system that measured soil moisture. Some of our best customers were "uber rich families" who farmed in the Central Valley. Thousands of acres of high value crops; tomatoes, nuts, and citrus mostly. They were going to extreme measures to use the correct amount of water. Too much and the crop quality and value goes down, too little and the yield goes down. Our systems combined with sub-surface drip irrigation would greatly reduce the water required. And none of it was free. Not the equipment or the water.

If you want to talk about shenanigans and water grabs a great place to start is with the City of Los Angeles and the Owens Valley.

I was the almost polar opposite. I'm just never going to get old....simple really. All of a sudden I have grand children, graying hair, not only a prostate, but troubles with my prostate! And I'm older than my dr. And he announced a year ago he wants to retire? I know these are clues to something.....

I'm a man. The only things I "feel" are anger and hunger. All else is irrelevant.

I'd rather just spend on wherever I want to go, so will be as rude as necessary to say "no".
I only recently started using a Bonvoy card. It guarantees gold every year and I only need like 25 nights to hit platinum, not so bad.

I get offers but never really look at them, but would take advantage of the same if the opportunity arose. Would need to time it when the kids are at their momís.

Iíve been on daily meds since I was 25. 50mcg of Synthroid for hypothyroidism and then later on 100mg of Lamotragine as a mood stabilizer for bi-polar II.

The hypothyroidism sucks and has been tough to manage at times.

I think we have some mice in the basement. It’s an ironic tale, I believe they are feasting on the cat’s food. I noticed her food bowl (also in the basement) seems to be emptied faster than usual, and I see some telltale mouse droppings in the area.

So we are feeding the mice with cat food. Ugh.

Tough. My old colleagues are used to it and the new ones' opinions don't carry any weight.
