Addiction 2023.4

Notices
Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

RE: single "breadwinner" style families. Liz and I are college educated, career professionals and have been equal contributors into our household finances. But that's mostly out of necessity. We own ~22% of our townhome in San Diego that we bought last year. You'd need to be raking in some serious dough to be able to do that on a single income. We're not rich. I think you'd pretty much have to be in order to own a home, raise a child and still have a SAHM or SAHD in San Diego. It's just too costly here. Our townhome is worth nearly a mill. And its a freaking townhome. I'm not willing to move to the boonies in east or south county, so the single family home will have to wait till next time in 5-10 years.

I mean it is pretty sweet as far as townhomes go... it's a SF or NYC style row-house, three levels with huge garage on the bottom. You need to go up stairs from the sidewalk to access the middle living level. Comfy square footage and nice high ceilings on level 2, which is sweet. No awkward nooks or crannies in the floor plan.

I do have a bit of a green thumb and landscaping instinct from my dad. My chores growing up were mostly manual labor outside. I would get a lot of fulfillment out of having a yard to work on and improve. That's gonna have to wait. It was out of budget around here. Maybe next time. At least our interest rate is low AF so we're not going anywhere anytime soon.

I thought of that, but the commercials were dull too. It must be something on the broadcast. Thanks for confirming it's not just me though.

I got 9.5 hours of sleep last night. Feel like a new person. Conditions are less than stellar. Taking the checkpoint up to Richmond to ride instead of the moadone. Hoping the roads will be mostly dry by 11 but the wind will be awful.

I just wish so many of today's recording "artists" did not use Autotune (tm), that funny artificial hyper-tremolo buzz it gives off drives me nuts!

No one "Needs" a Madona.
I agree about auto tune. Sucks the humanity out of the music.

Every generation sends a hero up the pop charts.

At least that's what I heard in a song.

I think itís another smoke screen the media used to distract from everything else is happening. Honestly, who cares about Swift and whatís his name? No one does, but if itís shoved down our throats and it appears other people care then people hop on board, so they have something to talk about in social settings.

Explains why I never have anything to talk about. I am void of all media. ďDo you like stuff?Ē. Is about all I got.

I watch the local news and occasionally the NBC broadcast for world stuff. The local news provides plenty to talk about that will usually not devolve into a heated P&R discussion. Also "Madonna" has a second "n" that you guys missed. If I am feeling brave, I may go for "borderline" at karaoke night.

Same story but my game was golf. Played 3 to 5 times a week before marrying my keeper, that reduced to 2 to 3 times after marriage, and went full stop when our daughter was about 2. Never looked back.

PS, golf had nothing to do with test wife marriage failing. Other guys' dicks in her pants had everything to do with it.

my 8th grade education has served me well. I own a house that is worth about 800,000 on half an acre with a creek running through the back and views of snow capped peaks on all sides and I put two great kids through college...sometimes it is better to be lucky than smart......some times i look around and think man I surely have to run out of luck at some point....sometimes the redneck life is the best life.

Only problem is that you live where it is cold most of the year.

Obviously, millions of people care about Swift. She's a superstar. I don't know her music but if her fans want to camp out overnight to get tickets, or get into a show, it doesn't bother me.
When a superstar starts dating another big star the media is going to run with it. When you say "shoved down our throats" you could just say "get off my lawn".

You can always use a second one. I'm getting my son one this year, regardless of whether he has one already or not.
