Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm hoping that I can find the proverbial "middle way" between quitting bike racing and trying to press the time commitment by hook or by crook. Two things I have going for me:

1) I've been a bike racer for a long time, so we have that precedent. And importantly: my wife recognizes the need for me to get my exercise endorphin fix. Which is greatly reduced compared to before, naturally. I am hugely appreciative of her.
2) As much as I'm committed to cycling (as an athlete and community volunteer), and to my career, being a loving father and husband are my biggest life goals. My wife also recognizes this.

TBH, I'm kinda tired of training all the time and chugging through 15-20 hour weeks all winter. I've been on a high level of volume since the 2019 pre season. On the flip side - I'm excited to see how I adapt to becoming more of a time crunched athlete. It will be an interesting experiment.

This. She's a legit star and so far seems like a very nice kid. And that guy she's hangin' with now . . . . he was an established, legit football superstar way before TS came along. They both seem like nice kids and it's unfortunate ... i.e. not their fault ... they cannot have more privacy.

On that note, I'm midway through an easy hour on the trainer, light z2. Have barely looked at my Zwift avatar at all. Mostly surfing the web, watching the news and going through work email.

RE: Swift. I got nothing against her. She's not my style so much, very rarely seek her out, but I'll find my head bobbing to some of her hits when they're on the radio, or wherever I am. As Homer said to the judge during the custody hearing in the classic Season 6 episode "home sweet homediddly-dum-doodily": I got nothin' against Maggie.

I was picturing one of those scenes in a movie where either there's a big fight, or the male and female protagonists are getting extra frisky. Or those scenes where it's both.

Taylor Swift - not a not of whose songs I'd recognize to save my life, and someone Kelce - whom I've never heard of, are the newest Big Thing, which is fine for them if they don't mind it. Good for both their careers. I'm no longer in the Prime Demographic. I really didn't know many Madonna songs till Mrs. GJ started playing them. They're like potato chips or popcorn or a can of coke - pleasant, but not lifechanging. I'm glad somebody enjoys them, and if people are buying those songs, I'm glad it makes the artist rich, not just the record companies media conglomerates.

Larry is sooooo wrong. Taylor Swift is not the Antichrist.

We know this for a fact, because David Hasslehoff is!

BITD we had a guy in our RF lab who listened to pop radio, and when Madonna came on, the radio went to static. Electronic Countermeasures... very classified... You can't come over to this part of the lab.

As for things to talk about in social settings I always find that there are enough nerds in the world so I find someone else who finds discussing applications for Fourier Transforms interesting and we have a great time.
