Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Too much action in those AKC contests, this is more my speed. Can you ask Roscoe what the hell's going on here?

It's been too long since I had a taste of that. My mother was a great baker. Made cakes and sold them to friends and neighbors. Good at all manner of desserts.

Fitness Test. Can’t be right, I just did one. Anyways won’t be doing that. Already planned on 4 hr zone 2 ride.

Nothing about that is good, if you ask me. If I started my ride in Z4, I would have been fired by my coach. I get the little spikes into it after a nice Z1 time, then maybe some high cadence lowZ2, but jumping straight into threshold is lunacy.

A nice Z2 beatdown is what the Doctor ordered. When you're done, you best not feel good, or feel like you could have gone harder. 71% If you need to, start around 68, then work up to 71-72%. Pedal uphill. Pedal downhill. Pedal sideways. NP should be equal to actual lap power as well. No spiking it to get power to where it should be. Less than 8% in Z1, 5% is better.

I'm not sick, but I'm still not right from La Llorona. Sloooowly coming back. Will just be doing more lifting and maybe early season 5k/10k stuff.

DUDE!!! BUSINESS Card Trick!!! Not CREDIT card! Holy hell, don't do it with a credit card!!!

I find it works best if I take the wheel off, just far enough to get the folded BUSINESS card over the rotor and then slide the whole thing between the pads. Make sure the caliper is completely free to move around, squeeze the appropriate lever, and while holding it tight, tighten down the bolts. You don't have to torque them while squeezing the lever, but they should be tight enough that they're not gonna move. THEN torque them down. Then I pull the wheel and retrieve the BUSINESS card.

Sharpei never win in these things. There was one that did ok in the non-sporting group, but that was good as it ever got... Heaven knows they're certainly not a sporting dog, definitely not a working dog...

Will do that tomorrow. Thanks. Oh and I cut off the picture. It starts with 5 mins zone 1 then zone 2 and then that zone 4 you see in the picture. I’ll prolly just post what they want me to do from now on when it’s weird. The zone 4 intervals and zone 5 interval days seem pretty normal.

OK. Makes more sense then. They're not completely crazy, just slightly crazy. FTP type testing day after day sounds like a coach stroking your ego.

Reasonably certain I can't buy gas with all the extra business cards I have because of phone number changes and moving offices. But maybe you know something I don't.

The NWS finally settled on 30% as the probability of rain today, and since it wasn't raining when I was about to ride, I rode outside today. I did attach the rear fender, wear Velotoze, and bring a rain cape, however. For the first 40 miles, those seemed like I was being excessively cautious. The last 13, however..... The Velotoze kept my feet dri-ER, not actually dry, so that was nice. Same for the "showerproof" jacket, and for that matter the rain cape. Biggest kudos, though, go to the fender. The velotoze were all covered in grit thrown off by the front wheel, so if I didn't have the fender, I'd have ended up not only skunk-striped, but also with an accumulation of mud at the saddle/butt interface, and I'd have had a cold, wet chamois.

The ride itself was just shy of 53 miles (I was going to do the usual 59, but took a shorter route when the rain started). Felt really good, except for the unpleasant sting of raindrops to the face at 30+ mph.

And now I have to clean the bike. Again.

This was early in the ride, when it was still promising rather than threatening.

My resolution is to ride 100 miles that day. After that, I'm with you. Try to do and get better.
