Notices
Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

Powerline roads always suck me in, they always look so good on a map, dirt you could theoretically ride for miles and miles. But then you get there and typically it's just all 10% grade up, then down, then up, let's cross all the contour lines we can. Or it'll be flat straight and boring, mostly sand that's a foot deep.

This one was pretty awesome. Good chunk, good firm sand, some interesting wash crossings... 9/10

The cosmic crisp apple is sweeping the nation and that's the train everyone is jumping on. Figuratively.

Took the kids to the jamestown settlement yesterday. They decorate the whole place ships, settlement, and more for halloween and hand out candy. It was pretty cool. Wish I took more pictures.

That appeared to be the result of negligence on the part of whoever loaded that truck.

Certainly would agree with that. Iím sure there will be a lawsuit, but I wouldnít expect criminal prosecution.

The driver likely didnít load the truck.

Itís amazing though what I do see on the road while driving. Construction trucks with all kinds of crap in the back not strapped down, I quickly change lanes when I come across this.

When I was in high school I drove a rodeo. My buddies and I decided to skip school and go surfing one day. My buddies van was in the shop so we took the rodeo, threw all the boards on top and used bungee cords to hold them down. While on 64 the bungie snapped and the boards went flying. Luckily it was a rare day where no one was behind me. I was able to pull over collect the boards. We drove home with 5 boards and 5 people in the rodeo. None of the boards were damaged.

One thing I heard a lot from my brother who worked for the state equivalent of OSHA in NC and later HI is that a LOT of people in a LOT of businesses don't/won't follow prescribed procedures because they think they know better.

It's supposed to rain, somewhere between 0.1 and 0.25" today. And the temps are supposed to be in the high 60s/low 70s. My First World Problem is what to wear? Dress for the temps or dress for the possibility of getting wet? My "showerproof" gear is also cool weather gear (not cold weather, because we don't really get that much here). Decisions, decisions.
