Addiction 2023.4

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's been a few years since I've experienced 20°, might have to wake up early tomorrow morning and see what it's like.

Tomorrow is a big day for the Saturn. It goes in for its annual inspection. I am hopeful it will not have any issues, but any costly repairs may cause mrs datlas to veto keeping it alive and we may have to take it out back and shoot it.
We have until the end of the year even if it does not pass, but she wants to know asap what the future holds.

Stay tuned.

I'm glad I've never lived in a place that required inspection. I don't even think smog tests are done in Flagstaff, I would look it up but I don't have to worry 'til December 2024.

I honestly don't think it's a sin to do an annual safety inspection to verify people are not driving around on bald tires or crappy brakes or broken turn signals etc., but I also think it's a nice money grab for the mechanics to find extra work that might be in the grey zone. The emissions thing is also reasonable IMO. I sometimes see a car spewing dark exhaust and wonder if/how it passed.

Treat her right, get her a bath and a wax after the inspection.

The Saturn, not your wife.

I'm surprised your wife will even get into that thing.

It's pretty rare that she does, if we are going somewhere together we splurge and take the Fit.

Unfortunately this also coincides with the "witching hour" when Lilly is the most fussy, even after ruling out the basics - food and diaper change.

I'm still adapting to this but I'm not gonna lie it stresses me the hell out to try to console a screaming infant for an hour straight. Especially when I want to relax after getting home. But, bottom line this is something that I want to be able to do for our family, so I do have a proactive outlook at least. My soothing skills will get better, I'll learn to be more OK with her fussiness and mom gets a break before everyone's dinner. I whip up ours while baby is on the boob.

Liz tonite suggested maybe trying to push her personal time a bit later, but I don't think that makes much sense. I'll get better at this. Or at least more used to it.
There used to be baby opiates.
