Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just Ordered a New Road Bike

An Iron Horse Triumph race. Too good a deal to pass up with Performance Bike's discount this weekend. Very nice spec list for the price, should be a great bike to get started road riding on. Bought two pairs of shorts from them too, a pair of lycra bibs and a pair of baggies for riding with people my age who won't be seen with me in spandex Anyway, I'm super excited to be getting out on a road bike. Can't wait for it to come in. Anyone have any experiences with Iron Horse bikes? Its the Performance house brand, but the components are nice, FSA Crank, Velomax wheels, and Ultegra 10 all around.

Goals: get in good shape for ski season(mixed road biking with weight training) and ride a metric century before winter rolls around, hopefully up near my house in the Adirondacks sometime in October. This should be a very fun new hobby for the summer months.

Sorry for the pointless post, but I'm pumped about this.

Hey, glade:

Not a pointless post, we're glad you pumped. Congrats on your new purchase, it is always a gas getting a new ride.

If the bug bites hard, it won't just be a summer hobby, it will become the all-encompassing insatiable hunger that devours every waking thought.

Just like it has for those other guys on this forum. You know...those guys.

Congrats! I too ordered an Iron Horse Triumph Race and can't wait for it to arrive. Are you sure it's the Performance house brand? i've seen Iron Horse sold at other stores also. Where did you read that it was the Performance house brand?

I just assumed it was because I've never seen them anywhere else. Maybe they aren't. My bad if I misspoke.

I bought my Iron Horse Intrepid Road Bike at Campmor in NJ. Campmor is a huge camping retail/mail order operation. However I dont think that they sell them anymore.

I can't wait. I've been without a summertime sport that I'm truly passionate about(I'm a huge skier, 100% obsessed with it and a total gear nut too), so this should definitely fit the bill in that sense. It should fill up the non skiing months nicely, and who knows, it may even extend beyond a May to October sport for me. I can't wait.

I'm hoping to ride a metric century before winter rolls around, it seems like late October would be a good time to shoot for with cooler weather and 2 solid months to train for it. Also would be a nice time to see the leaves changing where I plan to ride it(south-central Adirondacks), although it may be a bit late for peak colors, it should be a nice ride anyway.

Tirreno and Forte are Performance's house brands. They do build versions of their bikes specifically to be sold a Performance stores. The Iron Horse Warrior DS Special Edition is a bike sold only at Performance stores.
Iron Horse makes decent bikes for the price.

Iron Horse is a division of Pacific Cycles, along with Schwinn.

I really love the geometry of their mountain bikes for some reason, and Iron Horse bikes are usually a kick-ass deal for the components. I wanted desperately to buy one, but realized my bank balance currently comes to a grand total of $15.79. Congrats on your new purchase!
