Addiction 2024.1

Notices
Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

where in the hell did this rain come from.

Just drove by a terrible car crash on the interstate. u-haul went off the road and was on fire. Judging by the driver side passenger seat being no longer in the shape of a seat I donít think it was survivable. Sad.

Rolling hills heading east. Foothills today, so only 4500-ish climbing.

Think of Addiction as a Foo thread within the Road forum, where one can discuss all manner of topics without being off-topic. Personally, I think a reasonable goal would be to aim for a reasonable balance of topics. Specifically, at times last year I think the thread got too bogged down with cycling issues, which outnumbered and outweighed everything else. Among other things, humor suffered, and more than one person has privately complained to me about their dissatisfaction with the content of the thread. They said things had gotten very boring and the thread just wasnít fun anymore, especially since the passing of Pcad, whom most know was all about fun and comical banter.

I see that as easily fixed. Before getting too cycling centric we might possibly remember that we are in a cycling forum where a topic will almost certainly find a wider body of interested souls outside of Addiction than whatís available inside Addiction. Let me be clear right away, Iím not saying we shouldnít discuss anything cycling related in Addiction, but rather letís try to find a balance where itís more sporadic or, for example, it doesnít take up one or two whole pages of chatter at a time. Thatís a bit much for any topic. Move it out to the cycling forum where more help is available and where more can enjoy. Thereís a big difference historically between the purpose and usage of the Water Cooler/Chit Chat thread and the purpose and usage of the Addiction thread. I definitely donít think it would be much fun if all of the Road Cycling topics gradually migrated into the Addiction thread. It could happen. Some might say itís happening now.

I realize of course everyone canít be as witty as Pcad, and the thread will never be the same without him, or Coasting, but we can try at least to be a little more considerate of a wider audience.
tl;dr
