Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

About three months ago, I decided that after my pending (insert sound of wood being knocked upon) graduation that I would buy myself a new steed with the left over student loan money that I have accrued throughout each of my degree programs. Two-and-a-half months ago, I decided that that was absurd - why wait?! So, I did the research and committed to action...

I will openly concede this caveat, I like cycles to be a bit ostentatious (for this is hobby/affair of passion)... In most ways, my new bike (see attached) is perfect (i.e., the ride surprised me having owned some "serious" race rigs in the past, the paint scheme is "pure sex", & the set-up is essentially all I could want at this point in my life). That said, there is that part of me that still "wants"...

I am not so much in need of advice, but I am interested in the "external processing" and discourse on this subject - is there a such thing as too much OCP? I am staring at the bike that finally satiates my craving and I cannot help but to think about replacing the following items that came equipped on the bike: I have these blue Michelin Pro tires when the Conti Attack and Forces crap out; white bar tape (I know); though the Orion II's rock, wouldn't a wheelset with bladed spokes be smoking?; and I am really considering selling the black Arione saddle and ordering one online with a silver main-body and a blue insert to match the frame. Especially in the case of the latter, should I seek professional help or is this legitimate OCP?

Have fun flaming me, poking fun, or neglecting my pathology!!!

Bladed spokes, blue lined Arione, BLUE bar tape and blue Pro race's.

Yep, it's OCP, but I like it. I think I am slowly turning OCP too. I picked up some Ti skewers and Carbon cages the other day(on sale of course).

Brother, would you mind PMing me the seller's name? What's a hundo less in student loan budget? I figure I have two vices in life - exotic looking bikes and exotic looking women (and the former is a cheaper hobby than the latter).

Spin,
Nice lookin' bike. I say go for it! If OCP'n the bike makes you like riding it that much more then more power to ya if you have the cash to do it. Wanting to be on the bike keeps the miles up. I know what you mean too. I am thinking about the Mich Pro's with the red 'cause my bike is red. Will have about 1000 miles on the Contis by Sept. (Don't want to ride my first Century in Oct with "High" miles on the tires). Add some red and black tiger bar tape along with the black and red-accent bottle cages and I guess I may be starting to get a little OCP in my blood even though I haven't been riding that long. Have fun with it and post some pics if you get it OCP'd out.

Trey

The true poseur only has occasional flashes of guilt/doubt/self-questioning. Then the moment passes and you buy another goodie... I mean, extremely essential piece of equipment that no one should be forced to live without.

Well, as much as I would like to agree with you but, alas, I cannot. From a clinical perspective (yeah, I still have to convince these folks to accept the dissertation; but I am basically a head-shrinker sans 9 months ), a mere Poseur would buy, buy, buy without recourse... but, one who is obsessive compulsive connotes all of the mental deliberation that preceeds the purchase. It is the necessary and sufficient process of dwelling, considering, reconsidering, and dwelling again that makes the ultimate purchase precise and gratifying (at least for a couple of minutes)
