*knock, knock* Is this thing on? *cough*

Has everyone gone away for the long weekend already?

Anyway, I'm having lunch and I'm bored, so let's play 'Thylacine's Hypothetical'.

Say I wanted a new roadie and could pretty much do anything. Do I go 'tech' and be a w@nker and do a Carbon/ti frame, or do I be classy and do a lugged steel frame and forks and go sick on the paint?

Oooh! Oooh! I can answer this one. Do a steel frame, with no paint at the lug junctions, just polished and clear coat.

If you're gonna be a w@nker, use both hands. Carbon/ti frame with an Army paint scheme. Oh, yeah.

Go high tech. Push yerself. Don't worry about that old foggey steel crap. You've been there, done that. You can still throw a bit of paint on the titanium carbon jobbie. Make sure it's flowers, or red with a hammer and sickle, then start a thread on it. ;)

[edit] Actually hammer and sickle's a bit old. How about red with a bunch of yellow stars? That'd work. Except probably no one would get it.

953 stainless

what's the latest with that?

Thylacine 04-12-06 09:55 PM

Methinks I spoke to Stubacca on the telephone recently :)

953? If people want it, we can do it. Same price as Titanium plus whatever it costs to heat treat it, so you're looking down the barrel of sub AUD4000 frame only.

Oh yeah, there's a huge queue at the door

jock 04-12-06 10:01 PM

Tigger, go with scandium frame + carbon seat stays + steel forks + ssteel dropouts + carbon seatpost + carbon bars. Put a retro leather saddle on, and double strap toe clips for added effect.

Then paint it in a star spangled banner effect with "I'm horny for George" decals everywhere

531Aussie 04-12-06 10:09 PM

you guys see the steel Wilier being used in Classics? 'Bout time!!
http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2006...roubaix_bikes1

I had no idea until Classic posted it somewhere else.

Apparently, Paris-Roubaix highlights are on 'ABS' (that's what some "new" Australians call it), Sunday, the 23rd of April

LOL.

Or an Aussie flag with 'I love Cronulla'

Thylacine 04-12-06 10:45 PM

More like "Cronulla is fully sick, moit!"

Speaking of which, pretty picture of Carbon/Ti concept I'm messin' around with....

Might happen sometime when I get rich and famous

Oh yeah, the Aussie chicks who were involved in that car accident in Germany are on Denton next Monday. Cycling on telly two days in a row? Wow, what did we do to deserve to get that?

mrkott3r 04-12-06 11:34 PM

Go steel.
*insert corny steel line here*

climbo 04-12-06 11:53 PM

on Denton, bit late isn't he?

Wazza, you can't give us all this bul**** about NEW bikes and how the choice is so hard and the like when we can't afford one... your killing me !!!

Yep, looks like that here too, and this monitor ain't so crap..(ummm, 20" iMac)

royale 04-13-06 12:58 AM

Just got the new bicycle vic mag.

They've reviewed two fixies! (Jamis and Specialized)

Does that mean fixies are hitting the main stream?

Thylacine 04-13-06 01:04 AM

Did they complain about them not meeting Australian Standards? "And this one has no brakes OR reflectors!" Brettles, if we didn't live in this backwater, we'd know they became mainstream back circa when Crumpler bags started showing up on Home and Away.

I have no idea what those egg/albums are. If any of you saw my CD collection, you'd know why.

*snort* no. Not when most people when riding to uni are riding kmart mountain bikes.
No hipsters at my university.

Nobody talking about the podium at the Sea Otter Classic?

Nobody talking about the podium sweep at the Sea Otter Classic?

Last Sunday in Monterey California, three Aussies took the top spots at the Sea Otter Classic Pro Circuit Race in Monterey California. It's a difficult "National Calendar Race" with 31 laps of a race track for a total of 70 miles and 9300 feet of climbing. Here's the recap video:

bbw 04-13-06 01:48 AM

Gday fellas, new member here,
thought I should start close to home.
I've been lurking here for a while, enjoying your work and it's time to get involved.
Hope everyone has a good break.

Chookas, Steve

mrkott3r 04-13-06 02:04 AM

heya bbw. Welcome to bf

While we are talking about fg Ive been looking at ebay to see if I can pick up a cheapish fg. For commuting and lookin cool at uni. (although not many people would recognise what it is) Damn ebay is stupidly expensive atm for bike parts track wheels
Yeah they are probably good wheels but $200 bucks for a set of wheels that have been sitting in the shed for at least 6 years, probably closer to 8-10 years. For me that doesnt make sense.

Atm its probably better just to buy a fg from the states and get it shipped out here. Although resale value will be close to zero.

Wilchemy 04-13-06 02:07 AM

G'day Steve. Welcome to the mindless drivel that is TAT PartIV.....and bf in general too
Please note too that on TAT we don't really care if you're "bibs or shorts, "campy or shimano".... etc :D If you need to express your preferences I'm confident there will be a relevant thread started pretty much every 2nd day that will allow you to do so!

Have a good Easter blokes:beer:
