same here except 20 lbs. although I take it I'm a much smaller human. 5'9" and 148-150 lbs. Gained a 2-3 lbs this off season since I started lifting again. It's good weight though - on my chest and my butt. I feel better too and that's worth a lot. Climbs around here are rarely long enough for that to be selective

Ozempic to the rescue! ;)

on the flip side, 400w is too high for most pros. maybe mid sized (and up) world tour guys. if you took a sampling of all pro cyclists at all levels, I'd guess 90% of them would be between 300 and 400w at FTP.

Yeah Wiggins was over 400W, his hour record was estimated at somewhere around 435, but he’s pretty tall.

Neither does any professional male cyclist on this planet! It's one of the weirdest statement I've read so far on the internets. If I recall properly, men are over 400w and women are close to 300w.

From some of the articles charts that I've read - many using estimated numbers so that has to be considered - there are only a handful of riders in the +400 range. And many of those guys are the larger riders. Like 6'9 Conor Dunne, or Wout, MVDP types. A few elite GC guys...

Naturally w/kg is the big factor...

I've seen estimates for Pogs - 25 min at 428 on a race winning attack, which equates to 385+/- FTP. At the end of a long race, not fresh... Low 400's while fresh isn't a bad assumption.

A fully juiced up Lance was estimated at 400 5.3w/kg. He's stated that his 20-30 min peak race power was 6-6.5w/kg. Which put him at 420+/-. Fully juiced.

+400 probably puts you in the elite of the elite - elite GC or MVDP/WVA classics kind of rider.

A few of the women seem to crack 300 - but 250+/- to sub 300 seems to be the range.

I know you were being sarcastic, but it does raise a question.

One point my primary care doctor made is that people on GLP1 Agonists tend to lose muscle mass. It may well be that would be counterproductive in trying to get faster, even if they made you lighter. I haven't seen anything written about them in the context of enhancing performance. I wonder if anyone at a competitive level is using them.

Not to go too far off track... everyone I know that is using these drugs seem to turn into mushy bags of bones.

They can't stomach enough food to maintain muscle without exercise. I can't imagine how they could fuel themselves for cycling.

My wife had back surgery last year and they put her on it to help keep weight down for recovery - she is a bag of bones right now and I essentially have to force feed her.

Critical Power is max power over a shorter timescale ie 30-40 mins vs 40-70 mins for FTP, so it’s a bit higher than FTP and has a bit more of an anaerobic element.
