Brakes: Tiagra vs 105

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Brakes: Tiagra vs 105

Here's the story....

My '02 Fuji have 105 brakes. My '06 Lemond have Tiagra brakes.

I plan to keep only ONE bike. I will try to sell the Fuji (which has under 1,000 miles and about 6 months use....if that much). I don't plan to upgrade for a LONG time, so whatever I have, I will stick with it for a pretty long time.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do? How much of a difference in terms of performance will I notice between these two?

i have a tiagra brake on one bike, and a 105 and ultegra on another. i was surprised with the quality of the tiagra piece, it's quite decent. that said the 105 is a step up so...i'd probably switch...UNLESS the rest of your components are silver and the 105 brake caliper is black, then i'd stick with the tiagra .

Like I said in the other thread, throw a new set of pads on the Tiagra and it'll stop fine. The calipers are not the main factor affecting braking performance in this case.

You might also have an easier time selling the Fuji if the 105's are on it. Like Cydewaze said, new pads will make a world of difference.

'02 105 vs. '06 Tiagra? Or is the 105 newer than that?

Either way, I don't think I'd bother with the switch. Put some Kool Stop pads on the Tiagras instead. Even basic Tektro brakes have great stopping power with this low-dollar upgrade.

I guess so far it's "keep the Tiagra and put better pads".

Stubacca, it's '02 105 (with < 1,000 miles) vs '06 Tiagra.

I'm assuming that these DuraAce pads will fit in my Tiagra brakes?
