recommended NJ bike shops?
Can anyone recommend any, specifically selling Treks?
I know I can get a list from the web, e.g., trekbikes.com, but I am looking for shops where some of you have actually had a good experince with.
Thanks.

I picked up my 1500 at Pete's Bike Shoppe in Flemington. A big part of it was the flexibility and guidance they gave me while I tried out multiple bikes.

There is fairly big bike shop in Ridgewood. I have not purchased from them, just talked to one of the sales people. They claimed to be the first dealer in NJ to sell Fuji bikes. They had some Trek bikes on display.

The Cosmic Wheel in Ridgefield Park, NJ (north Jersey), John Russo, the owner is a terrific guy, sells Treks, Cervelos and Cannondales. He'll even let you ride his carbon Trek. He takes his time and doesn't pressure you into buying what you don't need or want.

My bro-in-law bought his 5200 at High Gear. They are indeed a good shop for service, very knowledgable and very active in pushing cycling events. Spendy, though. There is a place on Amwell Road in Somerset or Franklin that is OK, from word of mouth. Closer. Shop around, will save you some coin and see who is more apt to treat you well once you buy a bike. I am closest to Petes and Somerville and the latter blows.

Highland Park Cyclery is now a full-tilt Trek store. Good guys, but limited inventory and only one mechanic, Eric. I agree with comments re High Gear - good shop, but too many people throwing money around in that area. I'd go for Pete's. Also, I think the store in Westfield sells Treks. It's a pretty good place.

Living in NJ has made me very glad that I can work on my bikes. Also, some of the component/accessory prices are outrageous; the level of my gear would be of much lower standard without eBay and the internet....
Example: Just last week I wanted to buy some Time RXE pedals. Calling around to six local high end shops, not one carried the RX series pedals, but a few said they could order them but the prices were steep. I'm also looking for a Campy Chorus 1" threadless headset; only one shop had this item, at $99. Result: Ordered the pedals online Friday, recieved on Monday, total shipped cost $65. Campy Chours headsets widely available online at around $50.
