Bar and Cranks

I have switched to narrow bars in the 35mm to 36mm width region and riding 160mm cranks on both my bikes. I am 5'5" with pretty narrow shoulders. For a long time getting stock bikes with 40cm bars and 170cm seemed normal and then it was trendy to be on 38cm wide bars and 165mm cranks, but when pros who are a good deal taller than me are riding those specs, it hit me I need to be on the narrowest bar and shortest cranks possible.

What are you guys riding?

38cm bar width and 165mm cranks. I too didn't like the 42cm bar that my new bike came with after trying them for 9 or so months. The cranks I had changed out before I even picked up the bike from the shop. I'm 71 inches tall (180cm). Somewhat long legs too.

I've long despised proportional sizing.

I’m 6’2 and bars that are 40/42 slightly flared (shoulders were measured to choose that width)

I do find it gives less leverage when pulling on the bars climbing out of the saddle than my old 44s and my gravel 48s but it feels a lot more aero.

172.5 cranks. Same as ever.

5'85 here, with about a 31 inch inseam. I too used to ride whatever length cranks came with the bike. I dropped from 172.5 to 160mm with 52 teeth on the large ring on my TT bike. It feels good. I can tell the difference between that and the 170 mm cranks on my back up TT bike. I'm about to order 165 mm Force E1 cranks. I can get the prior gen AXS cranks for $100 less, but only in 167.5. But I'd rather spend the extra cabbage and get the size that feels right. As for bars, I also ditched wider bars for narrow, short reach bars. In fact, I only use Specialized Short Reach bars on all my roadies, paired to very short bar stems (60 mm.) They're excellent and very responsive.

182 cm 34" inseam broad shoulders. 40 cm bars and 172.5 cranks. I tried 165 cranks but they seemed to be responsible for jacking my back. I swapped back to 172.5.
