Do you find that quite a bit of water dribbles out of your rear mech cable exit on the chain stay if you hang the bike up by its front wheel?

I’m not sure how it’s getting in there… via the downtube hatch?

I have a Checkpoint but do not ride in the rain, because we get very little. Closest I can come is I've washed the bike a few times, but I've never noticed water coming out of the chain stay. Not saying it doesn't but after washing I'll pull the bike up on the rear wheel and bounce it a few times to shake water out that doesn't just drain off in the normal upright position.

The down tube storage hatch doesn't have a seal, so that seem possible. If you really want to get to the bottom of it, stuff some paper towel or similar under the hatch. Run a hose over a bit, and see how wet the paper towel gets. Then of course, remove the paper towel and retest and see if you can get enough water inside that it finds it's way to the chain stay.

Of course there are other places water could get in such as the top of the seat post, at the seat tube clamp. Cable entries near the head tube. That type of thing. But unless you're riding in a deluge, it seems unllikely very much would get in.

The one good thing, if you're finding water draining out, you know it has in fact drained out and isn't sitting somewhere else.

I suspect some water is running down the other chainstay (with the brake caliper) but don’t see any coming out there. Hmm…

Today was slightly drizzly for a while but most water would have come off the road… i had maybe a tablespoon or two come out when I hung it up

My CHeckpoint, 2022 SL crabon frame, as a hole near the bottom of the BB right next to one of the screws that holds the plastic guard in place. So, I suppose water could get in there, and if it isn't right at teh bottom of the BB, not all water would drain back out.

Mine is a 2X and there is a hole with a grommet where the front derailleur wire (I have Di2) comes out but would be the same for a shift cable. Some water could get in there.

But I know I have had water get in via my hatch, just not much. I have all sorts of stuff in there but have a bandana in here to keep some of the things from rattling and that has gotten damp from washing.

Another idea is to tape up the hatch, temporarily to seal it and see if you still get the issue. Presumably riding in rain is common for you, else why care about the one time you saw water etc. Of course taping the hatch isn't something you want to do as a solution, but it would be a way to confirm or eliminate the hatch as the source.

I've not noticed this with my bike (Checkpoint SL5) but I've not exactly paid a lot of attention to that when washing the bike or whatever.

My money is on the tool/drug stash hatch. Maybe some water is entering through there if it's not sealing fully.

I actually avoid the rain (yesterday’s wasn’t forecast and I missed most of it before starting my commute) so it seems to be either off the road or from washing and I didn’t wash it yesterday so was surprised this time. nwas. Mine is a 2022 SL5 mechanical 2x, I’ll check if that hole is blocked so doesn’t drain…

The weep holes are put in the bike assuming it will be oriented as it is when both wheels are on the ground. So if you don't find out what is letting the water in, you might consider hanging your bike level instead of by by the front wheel.

Though I'm not entirely sure all bikes have weep holes. I'll have to take a good look at my Tarmac.

I have a 2023 SL7 frame version, but I have never had any water draining from mine and I hang my bikes.

Check to see if the drain hole is blocked. My Domane was blocked with tape. After I was caught in a downpour water drained out when I was flipping it to hang. I had hooked the front wheel and the rear was hanging down. So water came pouring out of the brake hose hole. The tape was loose so after right siding the bike I poked a wire in and more drained out. When I took it in for the 30 day check I pointed this out and the LBS pulled the BB and found the tape. They could have blamed me for letting it in through the storage hatch.

Thanks for this. Fairly sure it was this, clagged up with muck. Found it completely plugged. A load of water drained out when I prodded a hex key through it.
