https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/fbi-...eport-11408730 I don't think that's where the OP is urinating. Though it better not be the flower beds by my mailbox. Too much ammonia (nitrogen) can kill the flowers and other plants. <grin> |

The issue is real. Especially wearing bright colors. Especially if you are in someone else's neighborhood. Especially if it has happened multiple times.
My only suggestion is better discretion. Try having one rider stay by the bikes as if changing a tire or checking a map or something while the other does his business. This is where I'm at on this. I always make myself non-visible not so much for my embarrassment, but that I don't want to make anyone else uncomfortable or have to deal with any police/tickets/issue. ...and it can cause issues. Once...non-cycling...I was waiting alone at a bus stop for a bus that was arriving soon. I desperately had to go before a long bus ride, and I had to make that bus. As I did it, I heard a car crash. Pretty sure it was someone distracted watching what I was up to instead of their driving. I've always felt bad about that. I'm sure in influenced my efforts to avoid public urination challenges going forward. |

I think much of the concern is area dependent/driven by the residents of said area. My SIL lives out near you - people are always yelling at her about this or that - and I won't get into the reasoning here... Down my way, deep in Cecil County - nobody cares. The land of farmers, hunters, outdoorsmen and women - we don't even go into our own houses to pee when knocking around doing yardwork or having a bonfire. |

Most of my rides are in the 4 hour range and at 75 I am most likely going to need a nature break at some point. Since this is farm country I can usually stop anywhere I need to, but at this time of year the corn is just starting to germinate so my options are limited. Not a lot of public restrooms around, so I plan ahead to stop at the one or two wooded areas on whichever ride I am doing even if I don't really need to. I try to get out of sight and have not had any problems with passersby but expect I could get yelled at if one of them should be the landowner.

As a motorcyclist who rode a lot of country roads, when one of us had to pee, we'd park our bikes together at the side of the road. The rider in distress would cross the road and get on with business as hidden as possible, while the other stood guard across the road. If a car came into sight, it was that rider's responsibility to do jumping jacks. They always look at the one doing jumping jacks. If they suspect anything, they look behind the one doing jumping jacks.
Try it. Or perfect the Pro Peloton Piss maneuver. It's like the Spanish Inquisition. No one expects it. |

I now carry an empty plastic beverage bottle (marked PEE) with wide screw cap, small enough to totally fit inside my biking tights or shorts, I uncap, slip the bottle inside my pants and undies, do my business, cap, put in pannier. Lately, when I feel a need to go, I need to go in seconds (age), and my local goodwill store no long has bathrooms available for customers (too much abuse by the homeless drug users), so I'll go to a dead-end clothing aisle where the racks are close together, and do same. (I also have my bike in the store with me, they are bike-friendly due to the high theft rate here.)

This is America where daily natural bodily functions are outlawed by the Puritanical nutjobs.
Insane how peeing on the roadside can land you in jail. And worse? Laws passed to "protect" children are being used to abuse and victimize them. Two minors who decide to have sex, or worse, take some pics of sexual activity can be prosecuted with serious consequences. All to "protect children." Insanity at work. |
Before I thought up the bottle-in-the-pants trick, I would stop my bike at the edge of the sidewalk and dirt, and kneel facing away from the road to do my business; The bike offered me some hiding from traffic in cars, and it looked like I was working on the bike. I still waited until there were no pedestrians around.

I try to drink a bottle an hour. On a 7 hour ride, that would be a ton of fluid, necessitating a couple of rest stops. But then not everyone sticks to the bottle/hour rule. |
Oh heck. I've done a weeks cycling in Colorado. So I probably should be on a register somewhere.

I expect you may be flirting with dehydration. I almost always have to pee after about 3 hours.

when i was doing harder rides i’d bring a bottle when it was over 3 hours, and if over 4 or 5 hours would stop once to refill and also drink another 16-20 oz. but no peeing. and certainly no peeing from anything less on the easy 2 hr ish rides i’ve been doing lately,

Kucharik used to sell bibs with a "privacy flap" which made nature breaks much easier (at least for guys.) Just pull your bike off the road, lean against it with your back to the road, pull out an old tire tube and pretend you're looking for a leak while taking a leak.
I wish I had bought a few extra pairs before he closed shop. He made really good stuff. |
As a cyclist in my 70's with an enlarged prostate and under the care of a urologist, I have to pee frequently and when its time there is no time to waste. Almost always I am able to conceal myself. But in the event, I am caught by overzealous law enforcement, and cited or even arrested, I would ask for a jury trial. Would a jury convict given these circumstances?

If you do get caught by a cop, don't claim Uromysitisis as a defense.

Mine doesn't seem to have a problem. She'll deposit a lake right on the road as long as it's away from houses and people.
