I have one of those screw-on Lezyne chucks and I find it to work well with butyl or latex tubes, even with the smooth stems. Usually there's just enough threads at the top of the stem for the chuck to engage, but I unfamiliar with the HED stems. After you pump up the tire, but before you unscrew it, push the little button on the side of the chuck to let the pressure out. It won't deflate the tube and it will allow you to unscrew the head without losing pressure in the tube.

I have purchased quite a few cheap floor pumps over the years. Often I just give them away and try another when I have problems. This particular floor pump I picked up at the Walmart for about 40 bucks. Its is holding up quite well. I especially like the large gauge on it. The head took some tome to break in but is performing well on both Shraeder and Presta valves at tire pressures between 30psi to 120psi. I don't think it would hold up to constant shop use but for me its working nicely...
