Campy front shifter mini steps?
Just mounted some campy shifters on the handlebar. Without the shifter cable & brake cable attached,
I noticed there are 11 clicks on the front shifter. How come? How are these clicks divided up to the crank? The right one seems to have same # of clicks as the rear cassette. can someone explain? thanks. |
Alows you to trim the FD when at the extrems.

so is it like 3 - 4 clicks per crank?

I just make one push on the shifter to get from one chainring to another. That push is several clicks. After a short while you get used to it and know just how hard to push. After a front shift, I usually find myself looking at the chairings to see how I did. Usually I did just fine but I can trim it if I like. I can set the chain so that it is in the center of the cage no matter the angle of the chain. I never ever have to ride with a chain rubbing against a derailleur cage. Silence is bliss. I really like the campy front derailleurs.

Double or triple? On a double one long shift, or two quick short ones will get you there... Not sure how it works on a triple...

It's awesome for a triple, a long sweep up or a full click down. Very easy to fine tune with a click either way. I use to look when I first started using it, but now I just seem to know how to click. I really love the Campy system, from flying multiple cogs in the rear, to fine tuning up front, or even the hand position. Just a great system.

I take that if I have a triple front shifter, I could use it on a double crank, with several unused positions.
and I could use a double shifter on a triple crank, but potential with the chain hitting the derailleur cage due to limited positions, right? thanks you all. :p |

I'm not familiar with campy stuff at all. All brake/shifter combo from Campy are Ergo? |
The left Campy Ergo shifter is a ratchet/friction type shifter, just like the pre-index days. You are only shifting 2-3 cogs so do you really need indexing for that????
Each 'click' is the 'g' spring fallling into the depression in the ratchet. The amount of clicks in the ratchet do not correspond to anything. Set the limit screws and shift the gears...thats all there is too it. |
