Stolen Merlin Road Bike - Denver

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stolen Merlin Road Bike - Denver

Hi everyone. I hope you don't mind me posting this on this forum but I want to get the word out to as many people as I can. My fiance had his bike stolen August 22, 2005 off of 13th Ave in Denver. This is a custom 58cm Merlin Light, light blue in color (custom paint), total Durace components, front and back forks both display "Bicycles, Inc.", lime green and yellow decals, decal of a nude Polynesian appearing female on the front stem, ksyerium wheels. Roger is an AVID triathlete and competes both nationally and internationally. He is devastated at the loss of this bike. It is his pride and joy. I've attached a picture of Roger on his bike at Ironman Switzerland, this past July. Please, if you see this bike you can contact me at hearsawho4@yahoo.com or Roger's email is rogerm48@earthlink.net.

I think he may be under his bed crying, as we speak. He left it on the back of his car, racked for about 10 minutes max. Long enough to go up to his mom's apartment and get our dogs. Not long but long enough. I'm sure he had it locked. Good grief, that Saris rack takes 10 minutes just to unhook. Anyway, he's sick. He's supposed to do Ironman Wisconsin in September. He'll have to compete using his is old carbon frame bike, I suppose. He's not happy, to put it mildly.

Sorry to say, but if they were good enough to open a lock quickly, they're good enough to make sure that the bike is gone for good.

Some homeowners insurance will cover this kind of loss.

Keep searching. It might turn up. Post a reward for information. Some people will spill what they know for $25. I don't know Denver, but put posters up in different neighborhoods. Somebody has had to have seen a blue bike like that.

If he is looking for a ride for IMmooo try contacting the local multisport club Headhunters. THere are a number of them racing that day but just as many who will be voulentering.

I'm sure the guy who stole it would be scared to see whose bike he just stole... Your husband looks like he can mess some people up if he wanted to.

Ha! He's actually a really gentle, sweet man...but I do believe if he finds who took his bike, that will change, rapidly. Good idea about the posters, too. I'll mention that to him. I know he's hitting all the pawn shops.

check ebay, craig's list, etc. also note that the person might have switched out the wheels and removed any decals.

I've got the RSS feed from the bike for sale section from Denver's Craigslist loaded up in my browser, and check it regularly. Haven't noticed a Merlin in there in the past week, but I'll keep my eyes peeled...

Hi. Just thought I'd give ya'll an update on my fiance's stolen Merlin. I've been checking most of the sites on the internet, the newspaper, pawn shops, etc. No bike. Found out today that allegedly Denver PD has tracked a thief to the Mile High Flea Market. So, if you've had a bike swiped in Denver...check the flea market.
