Campy 180lb rider weight limit?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campy 180lb rider weight limit?

Hi All,
I am 6'4" and weigh 215-220 lbs and want to get a new steel road bike with Campy components. I have been told by a couple people that Campy components have a rider weight limit of 180 lbs. To what degree is this true? Does this only apply to their lower end groups (Mirage) or is it also true of Veloce and up?
What about Shimano? Would 105 and up be ok for my weight?
By the way, I am not fat, so I can't lose much weight. Bike weight isn't the hugest deal to me since I don't race or anything, but function, durability, and quality do matter to me.
Thanks for any input!!

Poppycock. I'm 205#, down from 225# over the last nine months. Zero problemo. Record, no less. Also Vento wheels. Recently picked up a pair of Neutron tubulars. Again, no problems.

Wildturkey - not sure who you spoke with, but they are telling you crap.

I am 207, started at 230 a few months ago... I run Campy stuff (Mirage, Centaur, Chorus and Record) and I have NO problem at all! I also run Eurus, Vento and Proton wheels... no problem at all.

The 180 lbs thing is for Ti parts, like peddle spindles, and skewers, little stuff like that.

GET CAMPY!!! It rocks!

180 seems to be the magic number for a lot of things, full out carbon bikes, carbon wheels etc...why oh why am I at the top of that limit?! How do I drop muscle weight?!

Straight from the horses mouth: https://www.campagnolo.com/qea_search...cid=7&key=comp

There is no clear dividing line defining when someone is "too heavy" for Campagnolo products. Many factors need to be considered.
Campagnolo products were designed for "racing" type bicycles used on smooth asphalt roads or tracks. Any other use of Campagnolo products is improper.
Magnified stresses and loads caused by a "heavy" rider, coupled with forces from an uneven road surface, greatly shorten the lifespan of Campagnolo products, especially if your bicycle is equipped with tires, wheels, or stiff frames that are poor at absorbing shocks and vibrations.
The weight of the rider, type of bike and the style and conditions of use are all critical factors affecting the lifespan of your product.
Technical knowledge, experience, common sense, and prudence are required. If you weigh 80 kg or more, you must be especially vigilant and have your bicycle inspected regularly for any evidence of cracks, deformation, or other signs of fatigue or stress. Check with your mechanic to discuss whether the components you selected are suitable for your use, and to determine the frequency of inspections.

you said it! I am starting to turn into quite a Campagnolo lover myself! The ergo system works wonderfully, and it fits my hands right(somthing that is very appreciated). Also, to my eyes, its much more beautiful than the shimano alternatives.

Hmmm.... Campy's answer seemed kind of vague and non-commital. So, I'll trust those who are bigger riders who said Campy works great for them. By the way, congratulations to gcasillo and roadracer13 for the weight loss!

Weight limit on the groupo??? I can see it for a Ti BB (any Ti BB), some wheel sets but the standard 28/32/36 hole hubs should be fine for you, and I would think you could if you are a weight wennie run Ti skewers.

Can i gusse the shop wanted you to get a full Shimano DA bike and the are a Shimano shop. I have notice hte shops in town push what they like to service not what is good for the rider. Don't some of the Shimano wheels have weight limits as well?

Note: I love my Campagnolo
