Author frame at Chucks

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Author frame at Chucks

Ok... was a roadie in the late 80's/Early 90's and been a mountain biker since. now I wanna build a road bike to ride, maybe commute, etc

I wanna build a bike but dont have a load of cash and was thinking of doing the Chuck's Bikes route.

Does anyone know ANYTHING about this Author A-1 road frame??

Is Author a frame manufacture for other big name companys and this is the same frame as they sell with others name on it??

Whats your opinion of buying this $150 frame and building it up with decent components?? (Im thinking of going with 9 speed Ultegra)

Im sort of clueless with current road frames and could use some help in this area... I do know I want an aluminum frame....

Thanks,

Neccros

Author is a Czech frame maker. They are quite popular here in Lativa in the low end comfort bike market. I haven't heard of any frames breaking or such. Sorry I can't be of more help.

EDIT: If you play around here you might be able to find out more info. Czech only: http://www.author.cz

Another Edit: Here's some geometery info: http://www.author.cz/cs/kola/ramy-geometrie/&cat_id=4

Ok.... Found out this frame is made in Taiwain by a company called A-pro or Apro for Author... It is made from Easton Elite double butted tubing so not sure how good that is but it looks like a nice frame...

What resulted from your search? Did you build the bike? Author frame from Chucks? I'm looking into the same.

Thanks,
