Banned substances found in LA's hotel room!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Banned substances found in LA's hotel room!

Banned Substances Found in Armstrong's Hotel
By MICHELLE FAUL
The Associated Press Monday, August 29, 2005; 11:00 AM
PARIS, France

Lance Armstrong's record setting seventh Tour de France victory, along
with his entire Tour de France legacy, may be tarnished by what could turn
out to be one of the greatest sports scandals of all time.

Armstrong is being quizzed by French police after three banned
substances were found in his South France hotel room while on vacation after
winning the 2005 Tour de France. The three substances found were toothpaste,
deodorant, and soap which have been banned by French
authorities for over 75 years.

Armstrong's girlfriend and American rocker Sheryl Crowe is quoted as
saying "we use them every day in America, so we naturally thought they'd
be ok throughout Europe."

How many years in a row do we have to hear this joke? I mean seriously as soon as I saw the title I said to myself "toothpaste, soap, deodorant".

Thanks Stubacca. You have to be pretty small minded to think about racism simply as a black/white thing or whatever.

A joke about Europeans being smelly and dirty is racist. I understand a lot of 'traditional' white racist comics also use the 'lighten up' argument. It doesn't hold water with them either.

Actually I read the title and I was heart broken - I turned off bikeforum and actually went back to work. I was too upset to read the text.

Now I get it

I guess if OP thinks it's funny to bash the French on hygene - then equally we should be accepting on thier jokes about culture, history, cooking, etc etc

Wow! This is a great thread. I thought it was funny. I used to think racism was a term that was used to often by people of different skin colors. Now i learn that it is used by people of the same skin color. Everything seems to be racism. That is cool.

I wonder if it is racism that the Europeans keep alledging that Lance Armstrong was doping? I doubt it, because i think, if i am not mistaken, that the only subgroup that can't be effected by racism is the white AMERICAN male. Is that correct?

No, they would have to put it this way.

'We think Lance Armstrong is doping because he is American, and all Americans are lying cheats'.

As far as I know, they aren't making a racial generalisation, so it isn't racist.

The original joke doesn't say 'I know a European man who is smelly', it says 'Europeans don't use toothpaste, deodorant, or soap'. Pretty easy to see the difference there...
