Did AIRBORNE CYCLES go out of business???

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Did AIRBORNE CYCLES go out of business???

Hey,

Is the airborne cycles company of USA still in business? They make the reasonably priced titanium bikes. Their website said that their stuff is no longer available in north america?
What the hell??

EDIT: Where they bought out by these guys?

no, they decided not to keep the name in North America. It is a marketing decision that they made to go with the name Flyte. This was posted a few weeks ago on the forum....use the search tool

Airborne originated in 1997 as the first company to sell bicycles on the Internet selling consumer direct and providing generous helpings of consumer value and goodwill. Flyte will follow in this tradition and focus on creating world class technical products that are better equipped and priced than other leading brands. Flyte (www.flyte1.com) begins with the founders own proven designs; achieving significant advancements in material, technical, ergonomic, and visual appeal. Further, Flyte has formulated its retail pricing to appeal to consumers seeking the highest product value on the market.

Nice.

But I was kinda hoping they would have a carbon/titanium combo bike...I mean the seatstays. And also....is it me or is that srs-2 just a tad bit too much sloped in the top tube? :|

They do put weights. More than most bike sites do. Just click on customize.

lol.

well in anycase I've been browsing their forums and apparently they have some "top secret" project bikes being revealed soon. My guess its going to be a model with a titanium frame plus carbon seatstays/chainstays.
Just my guess.

So whats going to happen to the existing range, ie Manhatten Project, Torch, Zeppeling etc? Are they all getting scrapped. Thats a shame as they are by all account excellent frames.

Hi,
if you build up a bike on the website, it keeps a running total of the weight.
It's a cool feature, and I am not aware of anyone else that does it. So they not only tell you the weight, they tell you the weight of any combination of parts they sell.

It looks like Airborne.net had some problems in 2002, sold to Huffy Corp. In 2004 Huffy had some problems and Airborne split off again but left ownership of the name. Echelon Sports (Airborne's parent company) decided that they would no longer license the Airborne name and launched Flyte.net as a replacement for the US market. The Flyte name has been appearing on Airborne parts for a while and now will adorn the bike frames. Europe's division will still sell Airborne branded bikes.

I was going to purchase a Zeppelin in the near future and am trying to figure out what I am going to do now.

If you want a communist Chinese titanium bike, try these folks: http://www.habcycles.com/

With Litespeed US-made titanium bikes now selling for similar prices, I don't see any reason to buy a communist Chinese bike. Check out the Litespeed selection at your local bike shop, where you will probably find end-of-season sale prices.

Ha ha ha ha.

Still afraid of communism?? I don't believe it.

'Come on. Take a look outside the borders of this small private environment of yours that you probably call the world and you'll see that communism's not the biggest problem around.

ok red... just don't try to take my stuff in the name of the public. I have a shotgun waiting for you and anyone else who thinks my life belongs to the people.

(ooo... btw here is a tip for anyone who likes keeping their money out of the hands of liberals~ convert your cash to gold- it's stable, easier to hide from the goverment, and harder for the goverment to seize
(bank accounts are too easily frozen by the IRS once they figure out have the cash). the best gold to buy is Credit Suisse gold bars. They come in 1 oz increments and are 99.99% pure gold. Gold is trading at about $450 an oz right now. Capitalist pig asset management (www.capitalistpig.com) keeps an active gold trading market so that you can buy and sell gold as you need cash or want to turn to gold. They buy at just $10 less then what they sell at. )
