Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some advice please...

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to decide on a bike that I would use for training and for daily commuting, but I am also interested in keeping up with my friend who has the "Allez Elite Triple" bike. Here's the link:
https://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=9356

I'm looking to stay within the price range of $800 - $1200 but I wanna get the best bang for my buck!

I was looking at the bikes at this site:
https://www.supergo.com/itemlist.cfm?...subcat_id=7618

and was wondering if anyone thought any of these would be comparable to the Elite triple if not better? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. I could do with a double instead of a triple as I'm not one for hill climbing, but if there's a model that someone knows about that is within the price range I'm looking at and is as good if not better than the Allez Elite Triple, PLEASE lemme know

-J

Would you say it's a superior bike to the Elite?

i test rode both of them. Have been on the R660 for six months and have absolutely no regrets. i did upgrade the tires. People told me i would also want to upgrade the seat, but i have been happy with it. The bike is very comfortable, very light, and handles really well. i'm really happy with it. The list price when i bought it was $1899 and i got it for $1199.

I'm seriously considering the Scattante 2005 R-660 Triple Road Bike or the Scattante '05 CFR Double Road Bike but I just want to make sure it's as good if not better than the Allez Elite Triple.

Do you ever feel like you're missing out by not having the triple as opposed to the double?

Like i said, i really don't do much hill climbing, but my friend who i will do the majority of my riding with has the triple -- and based on where we ride I just wanna make sure i can keep up. Chances are I'll go for the double, but since the price seems so nice, the triple is actually keeping my attention.

Ehh...better meaning, I dunno... I guess lighter, stronger, just overall specs that would be impressive. I have to admit, I want to make my friend go a little ga-ga over my soon-to-be bike.

Okay...so i'm going to have to go for some financing options and the special financing offers that are available to me expire tomorrow so I'm pretty much basing my investment on whatever i read online and hear from people on here within the next 24 hours.

Only place that tripple makes sense are in the hills. You said you are going to be riding with your friend. Is he intending to do a lot of hill climbing?
Personally I don't really care about what other people ride. It all comes down to how strong of a rider they are.

I consider myself to be rather competitive and my friend is in much better shape than I am. However, I don't want to reach a point when we're riding where I'm going to use the excuse that the reason I am not able to keep up with him is because of the equipment I'm using. Oh...and I've decided against going for a triple.... just more weight and equipment that doesn't suite me. Thanks for your responses thus far!!
