Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Arione has landed

I got my Team Barloworld Arione on Tuesday but wanted to get some miles on before the obligatory "omg it's the best freakin saddle ever" after going around the block a few times.
I put 50 miles over 3 rides Wed-Fri. Didn't have any pain to speak of and while rides were short, my Selle Italia Flite would bring tears to my eyes at around 20 miles (a perinium pressure cooker), so yes I'm happy about that.
Planned on doing 80 miles today but only had time for 68 (wife to work at 3) I felt great with the saddle for the entire ride really. One thing about the Arione is how much room there is. That's good and bad - at least for me. Good because like everyone says you can move all over the place on this saddle and still be relatively comfortable. Bad because since it's so big, I was getting confused today as to what the optimal position is on this saddle. No position really feels like home yet, and while comfortable, I think I just need to get more miles in to find a grove.
I have heard some say the center strip is grippy on the shorts but found at least the Barloworld to be fairly slick all over. This saddle isn't the end all and be all but it's sharp looking, comfortable, and fairly light. My a$$ is happy

I would say that it is indeed the "end all be all".

Wow! Nice bike. I'm looking to get a Tuscany right now.

I also have the same saddle.

I do find the center felt part a little grippy at times, but you get used to it, one trick though if that you can just put some grease or oil on it to get it nice and slippery, i accidentally discovered this when i was cleaning the drivetrain and put my greasy hand on the seat a couple of times, when i got on the bike to test out the shifting, i noticed i could slide alot more freely on the saddle.
The position thing was also something i kinda played with, it's also something that will just come with time, at first i found the sweep to the wider part of the saddle way to gradual, and it used to make the back of my thighs kinda ache, but i don't notice anything now.

Are you hanging onto your Cervelo and getting Tuscany for 2nd bike? Nice Cervelo esp. w/ Barloworld matching saddle.

Thanx, first time showing the rig, but I felt in good company with the Tuscany and Cervelo, and the Barloworld matches so well

I wouldn't think of selling my Cervelo. It's been a great bike. Reason for getting the Tuscany is because I'm looking for something a little more group ride friendly. Plus the aluminum frame of the Cervelo is a little rough on the chip-seal roads. I've heard the Ti bikes really smooth things out.
I decided on the Tuscany because it seems to be the mid-level best bang for the buck in the Litespeed line-up.

I am dealing with this issue right now. My upper, inner thigh gets a sore spot after about 15miles in the saddle. So far I am not sure the Arione is going to be the one for me.

It may just be new muscles within your inner thighs you haven't worked out yet. Give it a while longer.

Daytonian, your Tuscany looks like it's trapped in Rivendell (leaning on those bonzai trees). Where are the Hobbits?

Pretty bike

That saddle looks really nice with the Titanium. Beautiful bike!

Replace the Fizik every 3 months? I have 5 Arione's of various ages and all carry my butt as well as on day one, in fact maybe even better as the break in.

I've also matched an Arione to titanium, sliver stripe down the middle with black on the sides, as you can see in this picture.

Sweet, sleek silver all over! Yeah, Fizik found a true winner with the Arione... I have two and I can't go back to the Flite.
