Specialized Sirrus owners - Tire size question
This weekend I took my girlfriend to the bike shop to try out a Sirrus. She really liked the bike and was especially impressed with how light it was compared to a MTB. The only sticking point at this time is whether or not it can handle larger, knobbier tires for use on trails. The stock tires are 700x28 slicks but it look to me like 700x32 tires should fit and maybe 700x35. Anyone have any experience here? If she does decide to get a Sirrus it will either be the base model or the Elite.
Actually one other question for any of you with the Elite version. On Specialized's website, they list "Dream" as the only color option but at the shop they had a very cool metallic red color Elite model on the floor. Anyone have this color?
Thanks.

My parents just bought a matching pair of Sirrus's (Sirrussss? I give up!) and their LBS in Berlington swaped out the slicks for nobbies. Offhand, I'm not sure of the size, but at full (recomended) inflation (100psi) they rub the inside of the fork. Hard. At 80lbs they take the paint off!
Apparently the LBS guy told them they should run the tires at about 60% capacity! This to me looks NOT good for the rims. Told them to take the bikes back and have this addressed, but they havn't done it yet.
On the upside, if they don't ride the things in a year (and they won't) I'm stealing them both! $1,200 worth of nice bikes are not meant to sit in the garage collecting dust!
So, although not too helpful, I would be interested in the answer to this question - if there is one.

awunder, thanks for the reply. Do you know what size knobbies they tried to fit? I agree with you and would not want to use the tires underinflated to compensate for too little clearance. What size Sirri (?) did they get? If one is a 51cm, can I have it?

Hi Again;
I honestly don't know what size the tires are off hand - they live 200mi away so I'll have to wait until I go up there again. Not sure when that will be as we're all so very busy! The way things are going the situation isn't going to get resolved unless I resolve it, so when I know what's going on I'll pass the info on to you.
I also don't really have any idea what sizes they are - Dad's is probably a 54 ish, Mom's is likely the smallest size they make! But it'll be a year before I can legitimately declare them abandoned and make off with them! And I want the small one for my G/F.

I have a Specialized Sirrus, and because I used to tour on it and carry heavier loads, I changed my rear rims and now run a 700x 32 in the back. They told me I could probably get a thicker rim, but I was horrified at the thought. I don't want knobbies... I wanted slicks.

I found some 700x30 cross tires at Speedgoat. If any knobby is going to fit on the stock rims, that's probably the one. If it's really only 2mm larger in radius I can't see how it wouldn't fit the frame either, especially since you got 32mm tires on yours.
