Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No Yellow Jersey....Thanks alot !

It was half price,LOL I'm new to road biking this year. Crap. Dropped ? Poser ? I didn't even know what the hell any of it meant. Great , now I have to go out and buy another F.... Jersey. I should stay out of this forum and go upstairs to my gorgeous wife and.........well anyway. First the flat tire and now no yellow jersey, No wonder my neighbour hasn't come over to ride with me yet, she's probably laughing her ass off. Well what Jersey then ? Thanks in advance.

Screw em! Wear the yellow, who cares! Some people are too uptight on this board, most people you encounter will have no idea other than it's yellow. You'll just have a little extra incentive when other cyclists in the know sees you, that's all.

Was it just a jersey that happens to be yellow? Or was it a reproduction of the Maillot Jaune?

Your welcome It's our job to make sure you look respectful out there on the road

No yellow jerseys, no sleeveless jerseys, no aero bars and high bling wheels unless you can sustain a deceint average speed, shave your legs, and no triples or rear cogs greater than 25 teeth.

Did I miss anything?

At this point, buying another jersey to correct a fashion faux-pas would just double the poseur points. Your best option is to grit your teeth and wear it until it's faded and battle-scarred with ancient energy drink stains, when it will transcend into the realm of the uber-hip Lucky First Jersey.

Well, I think you need to define decent speed.

You didn't win it? You don't wear it. Call me "up tight" but that's like buying a Superbowl or World Series ring for yourself.

25+ MPH on the flats...

If you like to yellow jersey wear it, I am personally tired of all the BS about posuers, etc. It is your choice.

BTW The rule should be Race, shave legs, doubles with 39-53 ring sets and 11-23 or 21 only, wheels that wiegh no less than 1650 grams, no areo bars on a non TT bike, wear your own team kit, and if you don't race you can forget everything I have said in this paragraph.

BTW I am joking about the 25 MPH, ride however fast you want... shoot I only averaged 15.1 MPH today... and I race

I bought it for safety. Beautiful wife and 2 little girls. Just want the cars to notice me. Never even thought about the whole Tour de France yellow jersey. But what the hell, I still look good ( maybe a little foolish but I have learned my lesson )

It's kinda not, because like...he bought it on sale, yellow jerseys are at least functional sports attire (rings clearly are not), yellow jerseys cost just as much (at regular price) and are just as available as plain jerseys...for every poseur in a team jersey there's another in a plain jersy trying hard not to be found out.

And 'uptight' is not quite the word I'm searching for here. Ah! this is the one.

**edit: apparently the link doesn't work because the forum blocks out dirty language, even in unseen URLs. Read the status bar and use some imagination.**

forge lance's signature on it. then when people make fun of you, just say "well it's signed, so it holds alot of significance to me.." and when they marvel and wonder why you're wearing it, just tell 'em you have two, but the other one was actually worn by the man himself, so you have to wear this one instead.

honestly, i see people wearing them once in a while, and i never cry poser. if it looks cool, wear it. hey, i bought a pair of the nike champs elysees shorts because i thought they looked cool and they were cheap. turns out they're some of the most comfortable shorts i've worn.

You're "up tight." You said I could...

Poor analogy. Yellow jersey at 1/2 price, about $70. Superbowl or World Series ring (if you could buy one) a few grand. Probably not in his budget.

So why does the mfg. sell 'em anyway? You certainly can't buy a replica World Series ring.

I think its cool to see riders in Maillot Jaune. Since I don't live in Austin I know it isn't Lance. I'm cool with that.

Bet Lance doesn't even wear his when he goes out riding. Whaddya' think?

No, not foolish at all. This is what my other two-wheeler looks like:

I like riding this color because the #1 reason for motorcycle/auto collisions is the auto driver didn't see the m/c.

If you have a beautiful wife and 2 little girls (I have a gorgeous wife and two strapping teenage boys), forget what these BF members say (most of these "poser" threads are just joking anyway) and wear the jersey. If your wife likes you in it, what else matters?

You did earn it. You went to work, got paid and laid out your hard earned dollars for something that's sold to be worn.
Wear what you want. The only Po-zers are the ones that give a crap what other people are wearing.
That having been said, if you actually enter the TdF, then it might not be a good idea!

I made the same mistake, I bought a yellow jersey as well. I bought it for visibility, but I do not have a gorgeous wife... The point being since I shave my head (which I have for years) I got a boat load of Lance comments, it comes with the teritory. Point is wear the jersey, but maybe hold off on buying the team discovery helmet.
