Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look at this weird saddle

Selle SMP Strike Pro Saddle

Selle SMP's patented STRIKE saddle arises from extensive studies conducted which analyzed the different positions assumed by a cyclist in the various phases of a ride and the constant interaction between the body and saddle. Based on its findings, Selle SMP designed the Strike saddle which prevents the genitals from getting squashed and increases the blood flow to the leg muscles.

Doesn't look much more comfortable than riding on a bare seatpost.

Every year a new design. I can't believe that all the science up to this point has been wrong. I wonder if some of this is just the marketing machine's "new and improved" syndrome. Honestly, how often do most riders change their seats?

The cynical me says it just a way to continue churning in old, perfectly good products just to make more sales.

On the other hand, it might actually work, or give a pro racer the edge. Remember, Fignon laughed at Lemond wearing a helmet at that fateful timetrial into Paris....

I prefer this seat. I don't even have to wear shorts with it.

"selle" = "saddles" in Italian.

It looks like if your sit bones are not exactly spaced right for this saddle or if you were to sit on it slightly to the side, it will give you a saddle wedgie.

My beater has a plastic saddle on it, and believe it or not, it's pretty darn comfortable. Not only that, but plastic is pretty light stuff. There's only one problem- it has no bling factor. Someone needs to put trace amounts of some worthless element (put Einsteinium in there for all I care), patent it, and give it some fancy sounding name. Sounds like easy millions to me.

Weird...
pretty deep cut but I like the nose idea. I always have problems with the nose killing my crotch.

Why not just get rid of the nose all together (it's been done, I know)? What can you possibly do with the nose all the way down there?

Maybe you can sit on it for a super-duper aero position?

Maybe it's just to make it look a little more normal than those funky saddles that don't have noses?

I had thought about it. I don't need it the way I ride. after 4 different saddles and lots of adjustments I figured A it would get better as I lost weight(it did to an extent) or I needed to go more upright.
but then I got hit by a car and the money bought me a bent. I am trying to get used to the road bike again but only for short rides.

"Selle" is italian for saddle. San marco and Italia are competing companies.

Well think about something, on a ride you are not always perfectly stable on the saddle in one positon. I mean some people are, but you never stay in the same spot. A little slide with no nose, well you get the point.

You should, my LBS let me try out three over a two week period before I chose one.
