No Butts, Just Drafting

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

All of this talk about ladies' behinds has got me thinking about.....

drafting.

I don't draft in traffic because that is a little on the crazy side. However in doing loops in the park I try to identify the folks who would be ok with it. There seem to be enough people in the forums that hate it that I want to make sure I am not pissing everyone off.

A few rules I have for allowing myself to draft someone are:

If you look like a roadie and are going the same speed as I am.
You had to draft me to manage to pass me.
I ask and you say it is ok.
We are going over an East River Crossing into a wicked wind.

Ok so I don't have a ton of criteria for this. I guess I am either looking for more ways to tell.

Or is the answer to never ever do this with a stranger?

I found taking turns pulling during the TA New York Century last Sunday was really nice.
