Yes, another tire question....

Last night I got a roofing nail in my rear Gator Skin. I went home and decided that I would repair the tire later if possible, but I was going to throw a new one on there in the meantime. The only problem, I could not get the tire to seat properly. I inflated, deflated, manipulated, re-flated, deflated, manipulated, etc.......I just couldn't get it to work. I looked at the sizes, the gator was 700x23, the other Michelin, (not a gator, but I cannot see where this would make a difference) was 700x25. Immediately, I thought that the size may be the trouble. I looked on the Giant website and seen that it came with 700x25's. So what am I doing wrong? I have changed these many times with no problems, but the were the 23's. Any suggestions?

It looks as if the tube is forcing the edges of the bead upward instead of down along the sides of the rim. Maybe the tire itself is bad? Manufacturers defect?

I have not had this on the road bike, but on the MTB sometimes the tire will seat unevenly. This will give the wheel a hop. For this I inflate just a little them grab the tire at the spotswhere it is too far into the rim and give it a few tugs. Then I inflate it to max pressure, or slightly more. This seems to get the last bit of uneveness out. Then I deflate to the desired pressure.
If you mean the beads are popping out over the rim. You just have to work it slowly around. Get one side on. Then work on the other. It helps if you stick your toungue out and say the right swear words.

I've had the same problem with slicks on mtb wheels too... i sat and pulled and tugged for 2 hrs when I finally gave up and said screw it and rode it the way it was. Hmm... 10 miles later I look at the tire and its even. Stupid tires LOL. Try riding it a short distance, this might straighten things out.

I don't see how this would affect the seating, but is the innertube you have appropriate for up to 25c?

If this is what I think it is (which it probably is not ), just take a tire lever and use it to push the inflated tube towards the center, push the bead so it's down in the rim and proceed to fill it up.
