Brake cable issue, need help!!
I just bought a Cannondale Cyclocross frame, I know it's not a road frame but it's close enough and there's no activity in the cyclocross forums. There are two flairings (the things that the cable ends go into) on the top of the top tube for the rear brake cable to go through, however unlike many bikes it's open, there is no closed off portion to stop the cable from going right through the flairing. I went to the bike shop and later learned that I needed to platic pieces that go onto the cable ends to stop it from moving which they say is Cannondale specific. I can't for the life of me understand why Cannondale wouldn't have sent me these pieces with the frameset that I ordered. Anyways, the LBS gave me these pieces however everytime I squeez the brake the cable pulls out of the fairing causing me to lose any braking. Ideas on what I should do next? I've got a race in 3 days that Im trying to get this bike ready for and really need the help.
Thx,
Dave

run cable housing all the way to the back brake. it sounds like you have cable "guides" and not cable "stops", right? this could be to route hydrolic brake hose.
I hope I understood what you were saying.
good luck

I'm talking on the top tube, not the hanger in the rear
What ndelaude was saying is correct, I have cable guides but not cable stops on the top tube. I'll have to do as you suggested and run the cable the whole way through as a temporary solution. Any other ideas?

It sounds like the rear brake cable routing braze-ons on your top tube could be sized for mountain bike standard hydraulic lines, which are approximately 1/3 thicker than shimano mechanical brake cable housing.
Bike shops should have fat metal cable end caps which fit snugly in the braze-ons. (I have this setup, with a mechanical disc brake on the rear of my mountain bike).

can these be bought online as well? and where?
For now did what was suggested below and just routed the entire cable which seems to be working as a temp solution, I'll change it after this weekend when I get the right equipment.

Unique Vintage Steel
try loosescrews.com perhaps? But I don't really see any long term problems with keeping it the way you have it now with housing all the way back. There will be a little bit more friction from the extra housing, but probably not so much you'll never notice. Lots of road bikes in the 80's (and before and likely after) were made with housing guides all the way back on the top tube for the brake cable.
