Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

funny roadies/stupid girls

Just wanted to share my experiences with the new jersey and riding .

I usually get only positive feedback when I ride with my USSR(CCCP) jersey. I have had people drive by and give a thumbs or other people chant, "go go go go", or "come on, come on"(all of them were Russian). So I really haven't had too much fun with stupid people until today.

I was planning to do a 30 miler but in the end I wanted to explore Burbank and other such areas. I rode to my Dad's work in Burbank and then up Riverside and through Griffith Park(I havent been here yet). Plenty of roadies in the area and other recreational riders.

I come up on two guys with one guy wearing a full discovery suit and the other wearing a shirt and cargo pants. I stopped ahead of them and they didn't pull up next to me. Guy one leans over and says to his friend, "This guy thinks hes in China", I look back and say, "And your friend thinks he's Lance Armstrong". His friend started laughing pretty hard and the other guy smiled. They were riding at a slow pace(probably because he didn't want to loose his friend). China? LOL

I then come up to a light on Ventura/Coldwater and two girls are standing there. One of the girls says to her friend, "Is that the Iraqi flag? I like Iraqi's" the other girl replies, "I think so but this guy doesn't look Indian." First, their teachers need to backhand them for saying something that stupid. Indian? How does being Indian relate to Iraq? ROFL.

Overall it was a pretty fun ride, I stopped by at the Cemetery to visit my Grandma. Pretty hilly on the way back but nothing I havent seen before. Total trip was 67miles with 2 stops, ate half a bananna before I left and only drank two water bottles, nothing eaten through the ride.

I have to try this again!

Lol good one. Just goes to show they must be teaching the 3 rs in school any more or any other subject of value. Got to churn out the next generation of week end protesters. No time left for a real education (like math sciengs geography(sp?) history or any other semi worth while to worth while subject........)

Where else did you go to make that ride 67 miles? It's usually only around 43. I did 75 with 8900' of climbing today but I had to ride all the way to Acton and through the Angeles National Forest. Just wondering...

I want a CCCP jersey so bad. I'm just a little afraid of the mother loving yokels where I live.

just because you're wearing a USSR jersey doesn't mean you're riding there. You really should eat or drink a little more

What was the design on the jersey? The flag Or just CCCP? I can see how you might mistake the hammer and sickle with 5 stars for the chinese flag but that's pushing it.

I did two circles around Balboa to catch up to one of my friends. Then I went down to my brothers house in North Hollywood. I went to middle school(along time ago) at Walter Reed and I tried to find it. I found it after a few dead ends. I rode around there a bit then headed back toward Magnolia. I hit Magnolia/Hollywood way and then headed up to Riverside. Then I turned left and went all the way down Riverside. I then saw LA Equestrian(sp) center(basicly horse riding area). After that I made a few wrong turns and explored the area. I then headed up and around Griffith. I saw a nice hill(its short but really steep because I had to hold the front down from going up) so I did that for a bit. Then I turned right on some street and then realized it was the wrong way. Headed back and made a right toward Universal City Nissan(bought my car here), this had to be the worst road i've ever ridden on because I thought my fork was going to fall off due to all the bumps. I made a right at the next street and then rode with another roadie for about 20 minutes, turned back and rode up Ventura back toward my house.

There was a pretty huge hill on the way back. I made a mistake by assuming it was going to end so I just started sprinting toward the top, then I realized it turns and heads up again. I just powered through it and made it back.

Worst part is that I ran out of water about 7 miles from my house and I was really thirsty

I was trying to keep a good pace, Everytime Id look down I would see 17-20, my comp gave me 15 as the average so I dont know

"Ovoleg...these kids are too young to know what CCCP stands for. "

But saying its an Iraqi flag? Those two girls looked at least 15-16 so I give them no excuses. I knew most of the world flags when I was 16. CCCP isn't even close to Iraqi language or flag.

The guy with the full discovery kit was actually older. Probably 30ish, I think he was kidding about China and it seemed like he knew what my jersey meant. I did like his discovery kit though, too bad its so expensive

Shows how short-sighted people are, or the society here. No wonder we keep on repeating the same mistakes throughout history.

I cant eat in the mornings. I have to almost force myself. I tell myself that I have to eat for long rides but the long rides always result from me trying to push myself a little more. I didn't plan on riding for more than 30 miles

nice stereotypical USA response there.

Do you know about Flouridation, Mandrake? It's an insidious communist plot to pollute our precious bodily fluids.

I wonder if anybody makes a cuban flag jersey, it's close enough to a texan flag to confuse some yankees:

because, you know, Cuba was doing great before communism. And you know, the US had nothing to do with Cuba turning out like it has. And, well, you know, we never call canadians Canucks or anything like that. And we as americans are humble, you know, never imposing our views on anyone else or anything like that.

I don't think two young American cyclists failing to recognizing the cyrillic acronym CCCP is an indictment of the entire education system.

Yankee was a term of derision for the colonists used by the British. In typical American fashion, we proudly adopted the label, thus further sticking in the eye of those that dislike us.

Are you trying to imply there is some significance in the monetary value of the industrial output of a culture? If i remember my edumacations correctly, this is the kind of thinking that communism was a backlash against. That is to say, GDP is not the goal of a communist society.

Lighten up, eh? It's a defunct place and a historical footnote that happened to have been not only our political, but chief athletic competitor as well. A CCCP hockey jersey in that light would be quite cool.
Cuba. Never mind. Catch a flight up to Montreal, then down to Havana...check it out yourself then get back to us. The Cuban consulate will not stamp your passport so you won't have any trouble re-entering the States. I know a couple of dozen Americans who've done this for urban planning study programs. Undoubtably poor, undoubtably governed with a heavy hand that I wouldn't want to live under, but hardly the center of world evil. Better check the tags of your cycling clothes...loads of it is made in China and Vietnam...but they're good commies?

What is it? Walmart is China's 4th largest trading partner?
