Sunday Morning Ride
I went on a nice and easy 20 miler this morning with my dad, it was a great ride, we traveled the backroads of our town (I wish I had pictures)... anyone else wanna give their input about their ride today?

I met up with someone from BF for the first time... we did 40 miles from Baltimore to Annapolis and back. Both of us just started riding about a month ago and this was the longest ride yet for both of us.

Does every cyclist go for a sunday morning ride???
I must admit that it is the best time to go out, less cars and the ones you do see are generally 'nicer!'

I headed the other way. Did a 64 mile ride from Annapolis to Chesapeake Beach and back. Frederick Peddalers ride. Lots of country roads in Anne Arundel and Calvert counties, with lunch at the beach. Mostly light traffic. Beautiful views of the bay.

I really want to try the BA trail before the season is out! I went on a 40 mile ride on Saturday in Middlesburg, VA lots of country roads. In sneakers; to everyone's amazement - the trip convinced me to learn clips so Sunday I bought them and practiced in a grassy feild.
I tried to clip in; got the left in, but before I could the right in, I fell down on my left side. I did that about 3 times before I figured out how to clip both in … Then I had to figure out how to unclip while stopping … the stopping part I did fine … but unclipping didn’t happen - then I fell! That happened about 2 times. Then I figured out how much I had to twist to unclip … so I unclipped the right side – AND FELL TO THE LEFT!
This all happened in a big field right behind a few condos … I swear, all the residents were peeking out the curtains watching an adult fall over and over trying to learn how to ride a two wheeler!

My Sunday morning ride took me to Plymouth, IN - about 15 miles from my place. I just stopped at McDonald's for coffee and rode home. It was fairly uneventful other than spotting a fairly large Whitetail buck. The weather was still, sunny and in the low 70's. Pleasant ride. 30 miles or so.

Sunday afternoon ride here, 15 miles of country riding, stopped by fire station at 9 miles and refilled bottle with ice and gatorade, average speed 18.6. Great ride, I loved it.

I had to two great days of riding. Saturday I rode from a friends house who lives in Lakewood, Colorado up to Lookout Mountain and I CAME DOWN LOOKOUT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! YIPPIE. Anyone whom lives in Denver understands Lookout MTN. This descent scares the crap out of me!! My friend is a STUD too he rode his SINGLE SPEED MTN BIKE the whole time. HATE HIM
Sunday, we rode mountain bikes, we had the AWESOME PLEASURE of riding in Victor, CO on some PRIVATE LAND, no other mountain bikers get to ride this ride, it was super techinal but I managed pretty well after many falls!!! I also had the pleasure of meeting some SUPER PRO GUYS for mountain biking, what a super cool bunch of people.
Anyhoo, the weekend was great and had a great time riding both days, I actually think I have my friend convinced he needs a road bike

I rode the "Heart of Virginia" 40-miler (https://www.raba.org/HOVA/HeartofVA_Initial_Thanks.html) on my road bike towing my daughter on her trail-a-bike. It's the longest distance we've ever done with the trailer, and the hilly parts were pretty challenging (39-25 is my lowest gear). We even had to get off and walk for a short stretch of one really steep hill because standing with the trailer is just too unstable.
They also recently repaved a bunch of roads around here with coarse aggregate, and there's a lot of loose gravel to go along with the bumpy ride. Despite all that we had a good time. The traffic was light, and only a few boneheads decided to try to pass us too close (one teenage idiot even squeezed between us and an oncoming car -- he would have gotten a serious facefull of me had we caught up). My daughter did great, pedaled for much of the way, and had only a couple of complaints about a sore butt. We completed the 40 in about 3-1/2 hours, which included one scheduled food stop and several unscheduled water/butt-rest/wait-for-others stops.

My Sunday ride was a short powerful one. I have a hilly 40k route that I have been increasing my average speed on all season. My pre-season goal was to do this route at a average of 30km/h. I didn't have a lot of time today so I decided to try and hammer out that pace.
Final avs. = 29.84 km/h. Damn. Still, pretty close. That's the closest I've been. I've been hovering at 29.5+ km/h for the last month or so. Hopefully that 30km/h barrier will fall soon!!
Last Sundays ride, however, was a long one. I completed my first century. 162 km. 5 hrs 57 mins. Felt great, no soreness, lots of giddy up at the end of the day. Even took the majority of the pulls in my group. It was truely a great experience.

Some nice rides described above.
My ride was a first. Me and my girlfriend decided to ride bikes to the Padre baseball game.
Normally its a drive to trolley (use gas), then spend about $8 on trolley ticket.
Or, drive to stadium (more gas) and spend $10-12 on parking!
Going by bike was great and easy, plus we got see the Padres win! And best of all, our bikes were were there when the game was over! Actually it turns out they are parked near the curb where the Player's Bus is parked which is an area protected from the fans, unless you have a bike parked inside. Nice to have security guards watching over everything.
Now here's the rub.... which I'm going to call the head office today. For a brand new stadium that seats about 45,000 to 50,000, they installled only 20 bicycle locking stations! Twenty!
I'm hoping I'll get some sympathy because gas prices are so high now but my girlfriend pointed out that it may be a deliberate plot to have only a few so you drive and use "their" parking facilities (read that more $$$ for them).

45 miler on saturday. I have a route out my front door that takes me NW to the BWI airport, then SE down the B&A trail to Annapolis, over the Academy bridge, thru West Annapolis, Bestgate Rd to Generals Hwy back home to Crownsville. Its a slightly longer version of the Round the Severn Loop. Theres cue sheets for this ride on a couple MD bike club websites.
I did a Cat 4 race on Sunday. First one in 5 years. I did pretty good. Never got dropped and rolled in somewhere between 20th-30th place. Just not last!

My Sunday ride this past weekend had me at a new speed average -- 25.1KM/hr (not huge for some of you but for me, a new achievement). I usually do two longer rides on Sat and Sunday -- 100KM each -- as a way to get out the stress of the week. I actually get cranky if I can't get in my nice ride along the lakeshore (heading west from downtown Toronto to Bronte Creek just outside of Burlington). Lord help me when it gets really snowy (I'm a bit of a winter weather wuss).

I did a 40-miler on Saturday morning. Beautiful, but windy. And I tried out some roads I hadn't ridden before.
I had planned to do about the same distance on Sunday morning, but I got a late start so was shooting for 30 miles or so. But my rear tire started going soft -- not totally flat, but "bouncy." So I pumped it back up with CO2 and headed straight for home. Ended up only riding about 27.5 miles, then had to change the tube. Oh, well...
It was a beautiful day, anyway, especially because the Panthers beat New England later that afternoon!

I led our club's ride yesterday from Miccosukee, Florida to Thomasville, Georgia. Actually, "led" is not correct. I followed, since we had a lady with us who was pretty slow on the hills and my job was to make sure she got back safely. You might be surprised to see just how hilly Baja Georgia is. She was a nice lady who only started riding this past Spring.
We ended up doing 43 miles with a break after 20 miles for pancakes and coffee at the Plaza Restaurant in Thomasville. It's a delightful place that caters on Sunday mornings to bicyclists, motorcyclists, runners, and triathletes who eat and get out before the Baptists rush in trying to beat the Methodists to the lunch buffet.
It is still as hot as mid-summer here and the route offers very little shade. By the time we got back to Miccosukee, I needed something cold to drink so I went into the Cal Mart looking for a Peach Nehi. When I came back out, a couple of motorcyclists that had been at the restaurant earlier were getting gas.
We commented on the heat and humidity and one of them said that he thought I would be tickled to get home, get a shower, and get a nap. I responded that I had some honey-dos that needed to be done before I could do anything else. He responded, "Trust me, Sir. You will want to get a shower first."
Oh, let me tell you about a phenomenon here in the South that the rest of you don't get to enjoy: love bugs https://cricket.biol.sc.edu/luvbug.html They are making their twice-annual emergence during which they accomplish their dual purpose in life: procreation and ruining the finish on the front of every pickup truck in this neck of the woods.
Love bugs will teach a roadie not to breath with his mouth open since the amorous little boogers like to fly around on the same streets and roads we use. They are attracted to hydrocarbons emitted in automobile exhaust and the fumes around gasoline pumps. You haven't lived until you have inhaled a couple of copulating dipterans.

No ride on Sunday: baseball. Turns out one of the Dads owns a De Rosa and 6 other road bikes. Watching our kids play baseball this season may turn out may give me an opportunity to learn a lot about road cycling! Who'd guess it?

I had a nice 67ish miler on Sunday. I wasn't planning on it but I wanted to see how far my dad's work was. After that(13 miles) I still felt pretty good so I decided to explore Burbank and the surrounding area. Up and around Griffith with a few loops here and there. Overall it was pretty good but on the way back I was pretty tired with no water and no food.
I made it to my house at like 14, overall average was in the 15's although I was going 18-20 for a good part of the trip. Saw another club rider, passed him and stayed ahead for a bit while he drafted, then he made a right.
I love riding on the weekends, you feel like you are free from everything and can devote some time to yourself

Did 40 miles from Hollywood to Lighthouse Point, FL and back. Longest ride to date (getting ready for a century in November). Had a good time, averaged 17mph and really got into a good groove between miles 15-33....
At mile 38.5 I felt like I hit a wall when I had to stop at a light. It's probably psychological, but it was also starting to get pretty hot.
Funt time, though.

I did my house (Crownsville) to Deale and back a month or so ago on the hottest day of the year. My route was about 65 miles total and I never once rode on Rt-2.

Had a nice 62 mile early morning ride by riding a local rail trail twice. Kind of foggy and it seemed chilly to start, but it really wasn't (72 F, actually). I guess it's all relative as we have had some brutally hot and humid early morning weather recently. Lots of wildlife out early but nothing extraordinary, mostly deer along side the trail and several cottonmouths on the trail. Whenever I see deer on both sides of the pavement I get extremely cautious. They usually all flee in the same direction so some of them will be crossing in front of you. I'd hate to hit a deer at 20+ mph.

Is Rt 2 safe? Im not really good with traffic yet... when I can get in and out of my pedals without falling I'd feel a little safer. Is there a nice quiet way down there?
