Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"BLOKS"...new and improved energy

On Saturday's ride I tried something new that the LBS gave me to give a whirl. It's something called Bloks from the Clif Shot people. There are jello-like cubes that are called electrolyte chews. They come in a variety of flavors. Mine were cran-raz and I have to tell you they seemed to work great.

First of all, they actually taste pretty good. I looked forward to popping a couple at a stop light. I never had any cramp or energy issues on the ride, which was a pretty hard one for speed that day.

You can keep the opened package in a jersey pocket and pop these things as needed during the ride. There are about 8-10 of them in a package. For me, it just seemed like a better way to get an energy shot than slurping down a gel.

Anyone else use these yet?

Have you heard of Sharkies? They're the same thing in a different shape. They remind me of Swedish Fish or Gummy Bears.

I like to put 4 - 6 in my mouth and let them dissolve. It takes about 20 minutes. Or you can chew them and then pick the pieces out of your teeth.

Have not.
How is the packaging?

BLOKS not really packaged for cycling ease....but it works well enough, but could be easier.

haven't heard of this stuff

I tape the top of gel packets to my bars and don't mind the way it works. Just rip it off the bars.

Can you provide a little more detail or picture on how you adhere the packs to the bar? I like this idea.
