Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To train or not to train??

I have a race next sturday (7th of september). It is a 12km course with 801m of climb.
The question is how hard should I train in the next week, is it possible to make a difference in form? Should I take it easy and how easy??? Which should be my last training day??

Thanx.

P.S.: It is my first race!

Before a big race, the usual tapering starts 7-8 days out. So...I would say today should be your last hard day. From here until Saturday, your riding should get gradually less intense. Keep the mileage about the same you have been riding, until Friday. Then, about an hour of riding will be enough.

Good-luck!
