Add-on: is this what makes a difference between a CAAD6 and CAAD7 frame?

Saintly question in any case. ;)

7000 ---> pretreated before welding

6000 ----> soft, welded, treated chemically and temperature afterwards.

7000 ----> poor, small company's way to build alum frames (less investment in facilities, etc)

6000 ----> larger companies can fluid form for specific frame designs and sizes, etc...

on a 6000 series frame - the welds are just as strong as the rest of the frame. on a 7000 frame - the welds are slightly weaker than the rest of the frame. Both works.

are you saying that 6000 is better ?

Better is realtive. Good and not so good frames can be made with either. You ride a frame not an alloy anyway.

They are both 6xxx.The 7 gets some extra fairy dust. Same deal with when Trek added some Zr to their 6xxx frames and upped the hype index.

the frame I have is a 2004 Giant OCR3 made with 6061 fluidform alloy.
