Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Newbie: Brake upgrade question

Newbie here….I am considering upgrading my brake Calipers on my 2005 Orbea Marmolada. Currently, I am using the Zeus Pro calipers, where were on the bike when I purchased it. I am considering purchasing either the Campagnolo Record or Campagnolo Chorus. I'm looking for something a bit lighter with better stopping ability. Just curious what people though of these calipers. Any thoughts on Cane Creek calipers?
Thanks,
Goosebumps

You might want to change the pads first (lot of riders seem to like Koolstops), as that's the material that's providing the friction to stop the wheels from turning. Stiff calipers would help too, but not as much...unless you get one with better mechanical advantage, like OG brake calipers. I think the Cane Creek brakes are single-pivot? So doesn't provide as much mechanical advantage as a dual-pivot caliper. If you're trying to save weight, put one of those on the back; stick with a good caliper on the front.

I have Zero Gravitys on one bike and Dura Ace on the other. The Dura Ace work a bit better, but the Zeros are way lighter, cooler, and still work pretty good. But they co$t a lot.

Why do you need to stop? Spend your money upgrading the things that make you go.
Seriously, try the Koolstop pads. They are only about $10.

Believe me, I will be upgrading things that make me go, once I get this sorted out. Ha!

Overall, I am VERY happy with my Orbea, sans the brakes. Sounds like the Koolstop pads are the way to go….much less than new brake calipers.

Many thanks…..Goosebumps

Well on my climbing bike I have the Zero Gravity brake calipers. First time I used them I almost went over my handlebars! They work EXCELLENT.
