Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Now they make the R900 pretty. I was so close to buying one, but the paint really deterred me. I've seen the new R800 compact in person and it really is nice. And I think the R700 is a misprint. They show it as a CAAD 5 frame. My 05 is a CAAD 7. What gives??

The 5000 is in their paper catalog and on their prodeal lists-a little cheaper then last season even

They aren't making the CAAD7 anymore. Or well, this year.

Check out all the bikes with compacts. It's the grey dollar in full effect.

Downgrade. Most of the bike manufacturers still selling a 9-speed 105 group are downgrading the bikes.

If I was looking for a new bike R1000 or R900 would be it. I think it's the only 06 bike that has traditional frame, 10 speed ultegra, 53/39 and is not full carbon.

With the R500 on CAAD5, it wouldn't make much sense for them to be churning out CAAD7's solely for the R700's. Thus, they've streamlined their aluminum frames down to the CAAD8 and CAAD5.

I'm seeing a lot of compact cranks on 2006 models.

It also seems like more companies ditched Campy and went with Shimano...*cough*Lemond*cough*

$1550. A full $200 less than my R700 when all was said and done. It already has most of the goodies I switched over too, compact crank (105 vs. FSA Carbon Pro), Selle saddle, and 105 brakes. Made me cringe when I saw it, but I'm real happy with what I have. Must stay out of the LBS...........

Finally, a R500 double. It's so hard to find a low end bike that doesn't come with an ugly triple.

I like '06 R900 better than the previous only because those Gipemme Parade wheels just seemed like the Pits.

I have no idea what these new Mavic wheels are like, but I'm sure the quality is better.

The colors on this years stuff is very drab though. Almost a 180 degree turn from the flashy/loud schemes of previous years.

That's very true. Although they have made improvements on some bikes. Losing that ugly neon blue on the R900 was the best thing they could ever do in my opinion. It was truly dreadful in person. And I like the Shimano and Mavic wheels so much better than the Gipemmes that came on most of last year's bikes.

Not bad, I mean I have already seen them. But the R800 and the 900 look nice. If anything these will be the bikes that I pick from when i get a new bike. But thats not going to be for a while

CAAD8 has the seat stays from the Six/13 which is where most of the whole 30g comes from. Front triangle is the same as the CAAD7

BTW...I have the new Six/13 Team frame, stipped all the DA stuff off last year's frame. I am amazed at the additional stiffness in the seat tube...I had to get a new front derailleur as the seat tube is nearly 35mm, really stout...but it makes a lot of difference.
Great ride...IMO a lot better than last year's.

Oh but the red on the R900 was sooo nice! It doesn't look like they have that anymore.
