Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

remember you can laugh at your peers when they become fat lazy couch potatoes.
peer pressure is such a joke they want you to just be like the biggest real loosers in school.

Who all are teenager riders?

I am

How much you ride a day?

Tough question, but generally about 300 miles a week. Beginning to cut down now due to the weather and light issues.

How old?

I am 18 next month (at last)

Do you enjoy it?

Very very much. I'll never be pro but I have big plans for next year and beyond.

Are you laughed at by peers?

My female friends love it, but all my mates think im gay for wearing lycra and couldnt think of anything worse then cycling for hours on end. Most of them drive everywhere and are so damn lazy at 17/18 it scares me.

I'm 16, and I've been riding for three years, and finally wore lycra without b-ball shorts this spring. I've only put in about 2,000 miles this season, but now that I've got my new bike, I'll be doing a lot more. As for being made fun of, people [i]know[/b] not to mess with me. I'm like a loose cannon. Actually, I just bought a sweet new bike, so I'm happy. for now.

Nice

I should add, some of my male friends find bike shorts hideous. One calls them "nut huggers"

17 here, I ride 15-20 miles a day, more in the summer. People think it's really cool, and honk and wave from their cars. I ride to school too.

i'm 14, freshman in high school. school is killer so i've been riding twice a week, each day about only 10 miles, which is a bummer. on weekends, i usually do 120 miles in the span of two days, and i try really hard there. i ride a bianchi veloce and have full bianchi team jersey. i did my first century last weekend, bonfante ride. started riding in march this year, when i got accepted into the best high school in san francisco. lowell. that's when i got my bianchi. cycling is my favorite thing to do and think about

Hi, I'm 17 years old and have been road cycling for 3 seasons now. Before cycling I didn't have anything to look forward to in the day and was over weight and out of shape. Now I ride between 200-250miles(300 - 400km) a week at a high pace (20-25mph+ or 30-40+kmh). I would love a chance to cycle semi-professionally but I fear I lack a location that would let that happen because I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and regretably have a 5-6month off season where it would be stupid to cycle outside due to snow and cold. Hopefully I might purchase an ergotrainer or virtual trainer to make riding inside more fun .

Oh by the way I ride 200-250miles a week even despite school, usually around 40miles, maybe a bit more, mon-fri, and then on the weekend 90-110miles.

Weekdays i ride like 8 minutes to school... not much sometimes take detours to make it more interesting and on weekends ride for a couple of hours each day

I love it, get teased a little about having "all" the gear (lycra) and leggings and taking it too seriously (i dont really)

but its worth it, and im now kwown as a biker which is alright. nice!

I forgot to mention that cycling helped me shed over 40# in one season, which I couldn't believe, and bought a new scale, which showed the same thing.

I am 14, and I ride daily. Expensive roadies are not my "cup of tea" but I have a nice Super Letour. I mostly ride my fixed gear, and yes I get laughed at. I will get laughed at more, when I start taking my 3 speed, I am restoring, to school. Since I have alot of school work, and alot of restorations to work on, I only ride about 10 miles per day. These are mostly fixed gear miles, I save the roadie for weekends. I enjoy it very much, it is an art form to me.

14. Doing a lot of cross-country stuff, so riding is cut down to 32 miles every Saturday with my LBS. Back in June I had around 60 miles a week. Started racing in late July, and on a good (extremely good) day I could sit in with the A-level racers.
