Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Attn: We Need You (rider's) on Sunday, Oct 16th

Good day,

I'm a Marshal's Captain so I thought I post to inform you all.

The MS Bike Tour is next Sunday, Oct. 16th. I just returned from a meeting and we desperately need more marshal's. The route is 30, 60 or 100 miles. ALL 60/100 miles riders have the pleasure of riding through the Holland Tunnel. There are plenty of rest stops w/free food and beverages throughout.

PLEASE NOTE:
As a marshal, you don't have to raise money to participate if you don't want too. You will be rewarded at end of your ride with goodies. :-) If you're interested or know of someone who may be, please contact me directly at BIKEVIDEOS@GMAIL.COM for further information. Response within 12 hrs.

Thanks much in advance.

It's in this other thread which he started about busting his poor donkey as it struck the pavement at 25mph at CP. Someone did some swerving and slvoid bumped tires with someone and now he's really aching.

So folks, there's no shame in going slow...

We were about halfway down the FDR when I guess someone's wheels touched and overlapped, probably from someone swerving away from a water bottle, and the next thing you know, (I'm all the way to the right), I look to my left and see a bike up in the air catapaulted sans rider into the back of another rider and like 20 people collecting into a pile.

You know the prob is the mandatory rest stop, that gets everyone pumped up and next thing you know, the 20mph the pace cars are doing is too slow and everyone is bunching up. Tell em they should ride the pace cars at at least 25mph if they don't want people bunching up. The guys in the front were rubber banding between 25-30mph last time.

Well, the mandatory stops is b/c there's only X amount of NYPD to assist. As the ride move from the start line to upper manhattan, etc. those roads will be re-opened to cars. So, yes, there has to be some traffic control. Besides, some routes for the 60/100 miles isn't traffic free. I also think people shouldn't use this as a "RACE" event b/c it's not and they should keep in mind, there's a mix of people with great handling skills, in the middle and not so great. Those riding 60/100 should just relax a bit until the split for the Tunnel. Just my .02cents.
