Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm sure we'd see all sorts of sexy carbon bike frames by now if the UCI hadn't banned them from the big races. The original purpose for the ban was to keep racers on something similar to the bike sold at the LBS. It's now probably about time to revisit the rules since fancy carbon monococque frame technology is now available at production bike prices.

I saw the original (Barcelona Olympics) one at a bike event. It was designed by Mike Burrows who lives locally and made by Lotus who are just down the road. It was surprisingly heavy and robust.
