Have you ridden a pre-2007 Orca? I keep hearing people comment that it isn't stiff, but I think its very stiff. I think the Opal is only slightly stiffer than the Orca. It's not spongy or springy by any means, IMO...

I haven't ridden the Opal but tested the Onyx...again, both pretty stiff and responsive bikes...

My other road bikes are a custom built steel frame and an aluminum, and I think the Orca is stiffer and more responsive than both.

Sweet NuBiker! I have family who lives in Foxenwood which I believe is a part of Orcutt. Would like to ride with you one of these days. I've been doing the Ballard canyon loop...well at least that's what I've named it. It's basically up Ballard canyon from 246, then towards Santa Barbara on 154, and back to Solvang via 246. It's only 27 miles, but a good ride if I make it back from work while there's still a couple hours of sunlight. I've been wanting to try Santa Rosa road to Lompoc and back using 246...have you tried that one?

I'm basically new to the whole road bike scene and need to get back into shape before riding with anybody with great experience. I'm sure you're levels above me and would hate to slow you down, but I'm having fun. A few years back I was hardcore into mountain biking, so this is totally new to me. Out of curiousity, which dealer did you get your bike from?

Just a follow up, the new orca is stiffer than the old one, orbea says its the stiffest frame they make although they didnt let me test that.

I'll let you know by the end of the week. My Orca is due to arrive Thursday. Full Campy Record with Eurus wheels. I bought it with the promise of a stiffer frame, so hears hoping. And before you say anything I will post pictures once I wipe the drool off .

And a problem... Adjusted the saddle height. Result? The aluminium insert that clamps down on the seatpost now has a flat on it. Anyone done/seen the same thing?

I´m taking it to the LBS (and Orbea dealer of course) and let them work with it. Probably not a big deal to fix, but I´d rather have someone else do it (if something goes wrong...)

Here is a photo of my new Orca! I was riding a 2004 Mitis. I swapped some of the components over and bought some new ones. Now I'm selling my old Mitis. I can't wait to ride this. I've only had it on the trainer and on a short ride to make sure I was comfortable.

I got to ride one the other day....it is plenty stiff....I am 6'2" and 170 lbs so I am not your typical racing stick. It is stiff and a smooth ride....Orbea prides its self on a smooth ride without losing performance. The one I road was a Campy Record 2007 and had Mavic ES wheels. Very nice. Price tag was at $5200. I wish I had to the cash to buy one.

I just got my camera out to take a pic and the @%#$@% batteries are dead. I'll get some batteries this weekend and post a pic. It bascially looks identical to yours. I just ordered a FSA K-Wing handlebar and K-Force stem as well as a Garmin Edge 305...maybe I should wait until those are installed! I'm hoping the K-Wing is a bit more comfortable than the ITM that came with the Onix.

On another note, that white/black Orca makes me drool. Best looking bike I have ever laid eyes on.

Here's a stock photo of my new 07 Opal. I decided to do Force all around with Mavic ES. I went with red bar tape, red look keo sprint pedals and red pro race 2s as well. Will post real photos soon!

I just pulled the trigger on a 2007 Orca frameset the other day and, if all goes well, it should arrive in 7-10 business days. The choice came down to either the Orca or the new Kestrel RT-700 and, while the RT-700 is a very nice frameset, the Orca is just a little stiffer. BTW, it's also .3KG lighter than the RT-700.

The stiffness issue may have something to do with the frame construction. The Orca is a true monocoque frame front to back while the RT-700 has a monocoque front triangle bonded to a CF chainstay.

I'll be installing 2004 Campy Record 10sp with Campy Eurus wheels and will post pics when I'm done.
