Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes you see the most often...

After reading Tequila Joe's post on bike colors, I thought I'd post a mindless poll for everyone to take as well, just to pass the time. Plus, being a pollster by trade, I figure, I interpret online poll data ALL FRIGGIN DAY LONG, it might as well be on a topic I'm interested in for once!

Sorry about all the bikes I am sure I'm leaving off, I said this was a mindless poll!! Besides, I can only put 10 items in the poll.

I notice a lot of Cannondales, but maybe that's because I have one. I also see a lot of Treks and for some reason, Litespeed is big around here. You should make the poll so you can pick more than one.

I see Trek mostly; I'm sure, however, that's probably because I own a Trek as do the two people I ride most often with. :-)

Since I own a couple Lemonds, I'd have to say I see them the most.

But they didn't warrant a choice in your poll. I guess I'll choose Orbea since around here, they've become as popular as Trek, Cannondale and Specialized combined.

I always see someone rolling the other direction on a trek. Trek seems to have a very strong network here in Arizona, nice bikes.........

Practical New Englanders ride 'em til they die, so I primarily see unrecognizable, rusted-out clunkers with downtube shifters.

We went through an Orbea phase here, followed by a Felt phase.

It seemed that EVERYONE was buying the same bikes. Then I figured out why: the local sales rep was pushing them like crack.
He was very pursuasive.

Trek’s are very popular here because of all of the “Lance Lemmings” pedaling about. They all wanna ride what he rides, wear what he wears and drink what the drinks.

The marketing hype of Lance-a-mania is so big, that trek bicycles, in general, are way overpriced for what you get but people still buy them in droves. Team Disco jerseys, (not that I would ever wear one) are selling for $90 on eBay which is twice as much as other team jerseys. Yet, everytime you turn the corner, there is another cyclist wearing one.

It's whoever gets the product in front of the consumer, and whatever the big stars are riding. Lance has had an affect over here too.

Msycler, I feel what you said about your "Ferrari." For this reason, I am hesitant to buy a trek. I know they make a great carbon, but everyone has them. I used to be in love with the Porsche 911, but they are a dime a dozen in NYC and they have lost their appeal somewhat, though still a great car. Same seems to be true of certain bikes I see in Central Park. I've never seen an Orbea Onix (I think I saw one Orca once). Wish I could afford one!

Specialized around here. Think thats due to the fact that all the local dealers here carry them and use them as there primary line.
