Buying Groupset in Japan?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buying Groupset in Japan?

I will be visiting Japan later this year. Does anyone know if groupsets can be purchased for less overseas? In other countries?

The cheapest 105 (5600 series), ultegra, dura ace, and XT/XTR stuff I have seen for sale is located in Singapore. There is one guy on ebay with a very good feedback record selling stuff like Saint 135 44/32/22 175mm cranksets for $180 + 25 shipping.

if you're in singapore, take a trip north to malaysia. parts here are far cheaper than singapore. i managed to buy a 10sp ultegra groupset for around 600USD.

I bought a Trek 1500 "ultrega groupset including pedal" with only USD 1570 in Malaysia. Trek bike is about 20% cheaper in Malaysia compare to USA but Cannondale is about 30% more expensive in Malaysia

this guy in mainland china (with a very good feedback rating) is selling all sorts of stuff cheaper than the USA. I bet you could get prices even better than this if you talked to a bike shop in the Guangzhou/Shenzhen in person.

https://stores.ebay.com/HONG-KONG-BIKESHOP

ultegra 6600 52/39 175mm crankset and BB for $180

XT M760 44/32/22 170 or 175mm crankset and BB for $180 too

for the mountain bikers, SRAM X9 shifter and rear derailleur set for $138...

XTR RD-M952 for $86, or the RD-M960 rapid rise for $99

You can get this 105 10S (5600 series) groupset in Japan from an online dealer called Bicinet-Sana for Y55,208 tax included which, with an exchange rate of Y115/$1 comes to $480. I've used this outfit before lots of times and they're very reliable:

Cheers! - RJ
