Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In our opinion, different but just as good as the High Pyrenees. You be the judge:

Three reports down, two to go...

enjoy.

Do you realize how many fantasy rides and desktop backgrounds you've provided me?
Thanks!

You do an incredible job, wow! Other than the cool temps I'd say this trip is bike heaven. One lane roads, little or no traffic, awesome scenery. Can't beat it.

I can see the town where I grew-up on this map. Now I feel home-sick.

Are you serious? Well don't keep it secret... what town are you referring to. We took lots of pictures, maybe your old house is in the background somewhere! I could also ask you why you left but I won't. Probably the usual 'bored small town kid leaves for great job in the big smoke' story.

Not really on your route, I was refering to the first map: between the two towns of Mauvezin and Grenade-sur-Garonne, a village called Cadours. I know fairly well the areas you are describing, nice report and great pictures!
I actually left for the green pastures of Ireland, no great job in the big smoke' story rightaway but later yes in Dublin then Boston, long story..
So, are you still over there or back in the States? What is your next destination?

Cadours->Dublin->Boston... interesting.

We came back at the beginnng of October. We stopped in Toronto, my hometown before returning to Berkeley. The next trip is Hawaii in December. So there will be upcoming photo reports from cottage country north of Toronto and the Big Island.

My wife works hard and is very productive. When she's not teaching her schedule is fairly flexible. She does a lot of work related traveling and we try to combine a cycling trip around her work if a conference happens to be located near a great cycling location. I'm, on the other hand, a bit of slanker in comparison.

I guess you are about 80 miles from the Clermont/Minneola area? I love that area... quiet roads and nice rolling hills including Sugarloaf Mountain, the highest point in peninsular Florida, at 312 feet!

When I get around to it, I'll post pictures from our Florida/Georgia/SC trip from last December.

cheers.

No because I impressed them with my steel Schwinn

Let me prempt any Schwinn jokes by first saying that Schwinn didn't make a single component on the bike. It's simply a Reynolds 853 frame painted with the Schwinn logo hence the reason why I got a good deal on it 5 1/2 years ago. It's now my touring bike.

I can't possibly explain to you exactly how jealous I am. I so desperately want to be in those mountains.

If the words do come to you then you should them write down and enter the Win A Trip to Mont Ventoux contest.

Halfway done with my 200 word essay already. Thanks for the link. Now, how would I break it to my non-riding wife that she's gotta stay home to watch the kids?
