Is there a way to save a picture of a Google map?

Will I have to do a screen capture?

yes, but what is wrong with that?

Just press the "print screen" button on the top of your keyboard. Then paste it into paint. Crop, and save as a Jpeg.

Dont forget to save as a jpeg.
