in your pocket?
What do you stuff into your jersey pocket on a ride. I have been carrying:
Can of Halt. Cliff bar Chapstick License, credit card and a little cash. I save my underseat bag for tube, co2 Cartridge, bag of damp wipes and assorted tools |
radio
5mm hex $8 sports drink powder front door key no bag. tube & puncture stuff is taped to my pump |
iPOD
Lipgloss keeps me happy! |
Cell phone, sun-glass cleaning cloth, powerbar or 2 on longer rides. Tools and tire fixing stuff is in my saddle pack.
Edit: Oh yea my ID, Ins card and a few bucks is also in my saddle bag. |

seat bag: some cash, metrocard (for subway just incase), mini-tool thingie, patchkit |
jersey: cell, photocopies of ID, some cash, house keys, a Clif bar or two or granola bars, depending on length of ride.
seatbag: hex keys, chain tool, spare Connex link, loaded co2 inflator with two spares, extra tube and glueless patches, Crank Bros. speed lever taped under my saddle. |
Ditch the Halt...it's watered down pepper spray. Instead, get "cop strength" pepper spray and you'll have at-hand protection from both dogs, and two-legged varmints.

I keep just about everything in my saddle pack. However when I do stuff something back in my jersey it is normally arm warmers, food replenishment, sunglasses.

I don’t like the feel of anything tugging on my jersey pockets. Everything goes in the saddle bag - except maybe a Chap Stick.

Here's a way to eliminate keys if you're riding from your house:
http://www.capecodbrass.com/simplex_auxiliary_locks.htm I use one of these on my garage entry door, and for added security and convenience I have a combination keypad outside that opens the garage rollup door. I cannot be locked out of my house. It makes walking the dog and going for a bike ride that much easier. Az |

In the pockets: For a solo ride: Cell phone & keys. For a group ride add a map/cue sheet, some real ID and a few bucks.
In the seatbag: Spare tube, tire levers, multitool, $5, glueless patches, photo copy of ID and Ins. Card and my "latte" lock (ie. a cable lock just strong enough to secure the bike for 5 minutes outside a coffee shop). For commuting: hand grenades. |

I don't keep much in my pocket. But that's because I ride with a Camelbak. (Never got around to feeling comfortable reaching for a bottle. Of course, not having a bottle makes it hard to get used to it, so I'm not sure if/when this will change.) My Camelbak carries my keys and wallet on shorter rides, and also my cell phone on longer rides. For longer rides, a bunch of Wheat Thins in a bag goes in one pocket. And on cooler days, if/when I remove arm or knee warmers, they go in my pocket.

I carry a camelback too...fits everything. I've gotten used to the extra weight. Heck...if I were concerned with weight I'd lay off the cheesecake!! Anywhoo...I carry my flat kit in my water bottle cage. Always carry my flat kit...can't change it if it happens but Murphy's law is in effect.
Good tip...an empty tennis can fits a flat kit perfectly. |
