GMC Denali Road Bike
I've never seen this brand before. Is this a deal, or is it too good to be true - a.k.a., department store quality?

It's been around...do a BF search for "denali".
It's been distributed through Wal-Mart for a while. But I haven't seen it in different sizes and colors before, like that seller has. Apparently the size corresponds to the color. Maybe Kent is diversifying their line.

The forks are made from 300 gauge aluminum. STRONG. Might as well be equipped with record.

I think the frame is solid aluminum. How else could it weigh that much?
Maybe they use recycled pop cans to make these?

There's a huge variety of assembly errors that have been documented with Wal-mart assembled bikes. Of course, the same could be said with your LBS; but if I were to buy the bike, I would give it a thorough going-over before riding.
Which is pretty much the same thing that could be said with a used bike; and a used bike would keep it's resale value a lot better - and probably (definitely) be a better bike for the money.
If you don't want the hassle of buying a used bike, go ahead - many others have, and I don't think there's a comparable bike at such a low price - but beware mis-assembly.

At the 5BBT, I saw a guy wearing jeans, a jacket and a man purse riding a GMC Denali drop a guy in full spandex on a Litespeed while going up a hill. The Litespeed guy took it as a challenge (I'm guessing that's how he took it cuz he said, "Oh, a challenge, huh?"), spun it up to about 12 mph and still got no closer to the Denali.
The lesson as has been so many times been pointed out on these forums: It's the engine, not the wheels.

O Father, please let all threads about the GMC Denali bike rest in peace. Use your wrath and power to smite from the Earth any who resurrect such threads, and also smite those that do not notice that the thread had been dead for 6 months before they continue to feed it.
This I pray in the name of all that is Holy and just.
Amen.

I saw that same guy. He was riding a repainted Cervelo, painted to look like a GMC Denali probably stolen from CSC at the Giro.
Also, it's sometimes safe to assume the guy on the Lightspeed could have been at the end of a 60 mile ride and the guy on the Denali was going 1/2 a mile to his job at a manpurse store, and was running late.

Considering how trickle down technology seems to eventually find it's way to Walmart, I wonder how long it'll be before todays Record group and Zipp 404's end up on a GMC Denali. Boy, I can't wait.
