Polar speed sensor

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Polar speed sensor

Hello there!
I have a Polar S series (S625X) heart rate monitor. I recently purchased the Polar speed sensor so I could use the monitor as my bike computer. It works pretty well, with one exception. I've noticed that the recorded speed is inaccurate at high speeds, like when descending. The speed jumps all over the place and I know I'm not going as fast as the computer indicates. Does anyone have a similar problem? Suggestions? Thanks.

I have a Polar too, and the speed (and mileage) is dead-on. Make sure the magnet is close enough to the sensor -- really needs to be quite close. Spin the wheel and make sure you're seeing the little orange light flash at each magnet pass. Also, mount the magnet closer to the rim. Make sure you put it at the "light" spot of the wheel (you might get lucky and exactly balance the wheel, as I did). This forces you to mount the transmitter further up the fork, closer to the monitor (watch). You might get less interference this way. Also, try both magnets. For me, the one that clips (vs. screws) onto the spoke works better.

Is the sensor/magnet mounted high up on your fork, near the rim? If so, you might try to move it as close in toward the hub as possible. When the magnet is closer to the hub it passes the sensor more slowly and gives the sensor's magnetic switch more time to respond. No idea if that will fix it, but it might be worth a try.

Do you have the sensor on the front wheel or rear? I was having a problem with mine and have since modified speed and cadence. I ran hardwired sensors to my aerobars and soldered them in to the Polar sensors in place of the built in reed switch.

I know it won't work for everyone but now my sensors are both within 12 inches of my Polar 710 and have been dead on ever since. If you have any soldering experience and need details on how to do it PM me and I can help.

Another thing is the sensitivity jumper inside of the sensor. Default is low sensitivity but you can move the jumper to the 2 right pins for higher sensitivity. Opening the case voids the warranty though so be sure you know what you are doing. You can google Polar Sensor Sensitivity and get some instructions also.
